I'm in the process of fixing my tired suspension.i received my shock today and need help with tolerances. Are these parts supposed to move a slotted amount side to side.help please

Mike, it looks like you have an 86/87 from the picture you posted. The FJ has 4 different generations so when asking for help/information providing the year of your bike really helps. Your question about a slotted amount needs more detail about what you think the problem is.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

'86 Ambulance - Bent frame, cracked case, due for an overhaul
'89 Stormy Blue - Suits my Dark Side

I'll give it a go, FJMonkey.

I think the manual says that no side-play is allowed (that means when you assemble everything and grab the swing arm, it shouldn't have any side-play). Also when you bolt everything together and move the wheel up-down, some free-play is allowed but nut much.

Those two pieces are joined together along with the shock with a axle type rod,I've got no side to side movement at my swingarm but those 2 pieces have some side to side play is this normal?

As long as the bearings are good, I don't think it is a problem.
Maybe someone with more experience can confirm or disprove this.
