The screws are located inside the petcock o ring gasket. There are no liquid tight grommets on the screws. The Phillips heads are ment to friction seal against the flat washer and the surface of the petcock.

When you put split ring lock washers Between the screw heads and the petcock you don't get a seal...you get a drip, drip, drip, right on to your left UniPod.....drip, drip, drip....

All night long in my garage.......drip, drip, drip, drip...

I love the strong smell of fresh gas in the morning.....It reminds me of.....

Another tip learnt the wrong way.

Don't use engine oil on your Uni Filters.

I thought the original Phillips screws had some kind of gaskets for the screws?  I recall taking mine off and one of the gaskets split, half stayed stuck to the screw and half left on the tank.  I reinstalled them back where they came out of and it didn't leak.

Either way, you wouldn't want to use lock washers on a gasket.

Hi Hooli, how are you doing?
On the '92 I'm finishing there was no gasket, just an oval O ring on the base of the petcock.
I was watching closely when I removed the oem phillips screws, they just had just a flat washer.

With the threads of the screws poking into the fuel tank, immersed in fuel,  I knew that blue thread lock would degrade, so I thought ss lock washers would add some safety to keep the petcock screws snug and secure.......wrong.

They're supposed to be fiber gaskets that seal. I've had the same (de-laminate) thing happen before to mine when the petcock
screws were removed.

No fiber gaskets when I removed the screws, just a plate washers. The PO must have removed them....I just ordered a pair.
