Hi new here and wondering if i can get a question answered. Is an 86 and 87 upper fairing the same in both color and fit? Also can the right and left side of the upper fairing be separated to replace one side?

Marsh White

Yes, same in size and fit.  Different in color...the red and white is reversed.  Yes, it actually can be split around the headlight.  Though...you would need to be decent at ABS plastic welding...

Thanks, I was thinking about JB weld? What about paint availability?

LA Mike

You should not use JB weld on ABS plastic it will not hold. Harbor Frght. sells a plastic welder or you can use a soldering iron it works just as well. Harbor Frght also sells a package of filler rod for all types of plastic, you will use the white ones they are for ABS. Check out this link to see how it is done.

I don' t know if there is a paint code floating around for the 86/87 FJ's I have the Dupont code for the 84 red and silver. You can take it to a good paint store and they will color match it for you. If you have any question just ask as I have fixed cracks and major breaks on three upper fairings and 2 lowers

Good luck,
LA Mike

Great, Thanks for the replies. Now if i can find a right mirror and a few other minor thing's maybe a lower fairing it will be looking good. It only has 5,000mi and is in excellent condition, It just got tipped over in the previous owners garage no scratches just cracks. Thanks again,  kviper
