I found this shot of me  and My FJ -- when it was new -- and me newer as well. circa 1988...30year ago eh!

anyone else got some old shots

PS - if you come to the West Coast Rally -- the bike will be present -- I think for its first time as the 89 is still down.

Steve, let the best color scheme bring you to this year's WCR. Can't believe you held out on us for as long as you have.

Talk about being king of the hill! Take the safer colored one and also the sharpest. If I had to guess what bike that was beside you I am thinking ZX900 or 750 maybe? Anyone ever flog a Kawasaki ZX900A 1984 aka GPZ900 first year of the liquid four, I would love to hear your stories and thoughts on that bike. To my eye the two best looking bikes growing up was the ITX FJ1200 and the 1984 ZX900A1 from the Japan family.

Good Eye, I have always like that style of Ninja as well--- so much so that when a friend was not using his I bought it--- so  I have the 84 too.

It is a blast to ride as well -- all 6 gears.  Ergonomics don't agree with my stature as well as I sit a little further back on the seat than the FJ --- and while the engine may have been their advancement for the time they used existing frames and rubber I think so from that stand point it suffers... rear tire is a 130 /80 stock -- But its biggest problem is the radiator is undersized for higher outside temperatures.  There are mods which can improve the cooling ( which I have done) but you can still have issues if running on hot summer days. ( at least here in CALi).

I have articles from that period --- and in the comparison the FJ still comes out on top but the Ninja 900 comes in a close second -- beating out the GS 1150 -- Kawi 750 turbo and its air cooled older brother the GPz1100

I remember reading about the overheating problems with the 900 Ninja.  The original fix was for the dealer to install a different resistor in the temperature gauge so the needle wouldn't read so high.  "Yep!  That'll fix that heating problem!!"
