There is nothing quite as rewarding as a long road trip and this one has been in the making for quite a few months. Every good trip has a plan and trying to stick to that plan can be part of the fun. Our plan was to head west and see Carnarvon Gorge in central Queensland turn north and Cairns. Then a little trip down the coast and home. "Effie" my Yamaha FJ1200 is now 28 years old and has been on many trips with me now and sometimes 2 up with my wife. This trip how ever was different we  towed a small trailer with camping gear and such. Carnarvon Gorge is 720km NW of Brisbane and a easy 2 day ride. There is 15km of dirt road a a few creeks to reach the camp ground. The first night seen 50mm of rain this meant the road out was blocked with flood waters and mud lots of Mud. We did how ever manage to do some of the short walks in the gorge and it is quite spectacular. Day 2 weather had improved so we took the chance to walk the main gorge and side tracks. Stunning.. We had decided to stay the extra day and allow the track in to dry out. The track was chopped up and hard going with a trailer in tow but we managed to make it out and head north. 2 days riding and we made Charters towers and camped in the Van park there and partied with the crowd of grey hair nomads. Great night and lots of fun. The next day we rode on to Townsville and Ingham. We mixed up the accommodation with some camping, motels and B&B's. Now Cairns and we set-up camp for a few days just out of town. From here we checked out, Mossman gorge, Skyrail and the mountain passes. We now headed to the tablelands and farther inland to Innot springs for a sock in the artisan pools. South to Townsville and a night spent at the lookout and just riding around town and I did enjoy it. South now to Airlie Beach and some cheep backpacker accommodation right in town for 2 nights. Spent the time just chilling and looking around the town. From Airlie it was a easy 2 day ride home with a pub room at Miriam Vale. So that's it a summary of our trip we covered 4500km with the only hiccup a lost oil filler cap which was replaced with the top off my Rain-x bottle.

Thoroughly enjoyed  the great write up and pictures of your trip down under. Could only have been better with less pictures of the mean looking bloke and more of the good looking shiela.   :good2:

A pistol is like a parachute, if you need one and don't have one you will never need one again.

It's funny, I was going to post exactly the same comments, especially about the dodgy bloke that keeps popping up in the pics. Great trip, pics and write-up Richard.

That looks to have been a fantastic trip!   The bike looks pretty good hauling a trailer - did you upgrade suspension for the trailer??

Beautiful shots....  and memories!

Cheers!

No upgrades but I did if shorter bones before I left but that only levels the bike up for the GSX rear wheel..
