The Golden Gate to RPM

I was going to say I rode it, but it was not an FJ. I picked up a V-Star for my wife today in San Francisco. He lives at the base of Highway 101 and The Golden Gate Bridge is within eye shot. You can see it in the back ground of the photo.

It is 103 miles from the Golden Bridge to RPM in Oakdale.

The guy I bought this from was selling it because he recently purchased an 84 FJ1100. Aftrer rding the FJ, he decided the V-Star needed a new home. He is going to be checking out the forum and I hope he joins the party.

His FJ has a couple of custom modification.

There is a back rest that has been fabricated to the original rear grab handle.

It also has a set of handle bars installed. Someone welded risers to the upper triple tree.

He has no idea about the mods, he just bought it and has been riding it.

At the end of the day, I am not sure if he really understood who I was or what I do.

He has the RPM site and FJowner site written down.

Hopefully he joins the fun.

that's for sure; the backrest looks factory in the pics.  Risers/perches on the top tree
is something I've been considering for a couple years. I'd probably buy a set if they ever made it to the market. A kit with longer hydraulic lines and a wiring extension would be peachy.
There's nothing you can do that can't be done.

Reminds me of a song.  There is a song by Jimmy Buffet  "I heard I was in town".   As I remember it he wrote the line because he was having dinner and someone in a table next to him mentioned that Jimmy Buffet was in town :). Little did they know.

A local FJ member (bluesrider) has an V Star and a FJ.  Rick puts a fair amount of miles on both of them.  I helped him replace a "clutch, hub" in the rear end and was surprised to how light and thin the part was.  Reminded me of a pot metal part.  When it gives way you are at zero and not going anywhere.  Most have no advanced warning.  I don't know that yours is the same design and what I am leading up to is be sure to do an inspection and keep it lubed.  Part number is 16G-25366-01-00 so you can see what I am talking about. The part name is "clutch, hub"  but has nothing to do with the clutch directly it is located in the rear drive.  Just stuff to ponder. Forgive my rambling.

Thanks for the heads up. That part you listed is for the 1100 and my wife's is s 650. I started doing some reading on the issue and there are two couplers that fail in the drive system. The one connecting the drive shaft to the final drive and the final drive to the wheel.

That will be on my list of things to go through when I give it the once over.
