I don't think so?

If you insatll e.g. an FJR clutch master, you will get an adjustable lever.

The FJR master is 14 MM so the lever pull will be supper light. It will still work but you might not like not feeling any pressure on the lever. I recently put a second clutch spring on to deal with a slipping clutch and found the original master was much harder to pull in. I had an FJR master that was on the shelf (donated) so I swapped it. Now with two clutch springs and the FJR master it feels like original at the lever. And it is adjustable. I have not even played with the adjustment on the lever, it is out to the max and seems to work quite well.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I don't find the FJR clutch master much lighter from the original (I have standard clutch/spring).

Biggest difference is that it engages a little earlier than with the original master.

Thank you for this info, less to worry about using a 14 MM master on a stock clutch set up. The difference I felt was going the other way and could only imagine the loss of clutch feel. I may not be less stupid, but thanks to the members here I am less ignorant everyday.  :good2:

What are you doing with the brake lever then, kind of want matching levers. I am looking for both, I have an extra clutch master from a CBR1000 ,was going to try it and see how it works, and switch out the brake master to a newer one also. Then I can get the adjustable anodized nice levers. I switched the brake master on a old CB750 to one from a newer smaller Honda and it worked quite well with the old brake system.

I have the Kawi Concourse brake master that is adjustable and looks like the stock coffin style reservoir. But with all the hype over the 14 MM masters and Blue Dot calipers (currently installed) I might look for an FJR brake master for a matching set.

Remember, the FJR brake master is a 15mm. The (same style) FZ-1 brake master is a 14mm. I went with the FZ-1 with matches my FJR clutch master perfectly.

Both have matching adjustable levers.

Oh, I must have an FZ-1 master as it has 14MM in the casting. More good information.

Be aware that not all fz1 brake m/c are 14 mm. The 06-15 fz1 gen 2 m/c is 16 mm. While they look the same they have a 16 cast into it near the lever pivot point. I own one and just checked it  to corroborate.

Hein.
What do you mean, you don't have a lathe?

Hein, is that an axial or radial m/c?   :unknown:

06-15 fz1 brake m/c is a standard axial unit that looks identical to previous 14mm. m/c. This braking system used 320 mm. rotors. I can only say that this combo works very well.

Thanks Hein, very good to know about the Gen. 2 FZR's (2006+) being 16mm.
The oem FJ m/c is a 5/8" which is essentially the same as a 16mm m/c.

I checked my notes, my FZ1 m/c came from the Gen.1 2002 year.
2001/2002 FZ1 had the same m/c: http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/yamaha/YP-5DM-W2587-00-00.html

Mark, I stand corrected... It looks like the FJR had a 14mm m/c for only one year 2003
The Gen 1 FZ1 from 2003 to 2005 had the 14mm along with the '03 FJR

Bones

The brake master on mine came off a 2004 FJR abs model which has a 16mm bore, and although the bore size is basically the same size as a standard FJ it has heaps better feel. Combined with braided lines, blue spot calipers and HH pads, the braking is excellent.

I've never read of anyone that's ever criticised the braking power of the FJR's, so add those parts to the lighter FJ and you can't go wrong.

All I've gotta do now is put a FJR clutch master on so the levers match.

I just went out and checked mine.
I am not sure what year FJR it is off of, but it is a 16mm Brake Master Cylinder.

I have the gold-pot front calipers, Galfer braided lines, and EBC HH pads. The braking is fantastic! :good2:

I have the matching clutch master cylinder (which I believe is 14mm, but there is no number cast on it). They both came with adjustable levers.
The clutch pull is a bit softer than the factory setup, but I am fully used to it and I like it. (especially in traffic)
