Yesterday I went on a 700km ride to celebrate the arrival of Winter and the tourists having finally abandoned one of my favourite loops for the season.

Fabulous day. Cool, dry roads, no traffic, no cops, great food and the FJ on song.

A second or two after riding out of full sun into the shade of the tree canopy I saw this at about 140kph.

With no time to react and absolutely no input from me, I just skimmed the right of it.
That is a good 6" drop and the bitumen to the left of the crack drops away more steeply than the rest of the road.

I considered all the likely outcomes of hitting it, or even going to the left of it and concluded it would have ended badly, really badly.
There is no way I could have avoided spearing off into the trees being so close to the edge of the road.

The stretch of road below is notorious for Kangaroos and a farmer has erected this sign.

I often wonder why, it's the fast ones you have to worry about.

Proof that the morons who determine road sign locations in the country do so from the 40th floor of an office building in the city and the idiots that install them aren't paid to think.

The "clearing" indicated by the arrow is smashed trees, various bits of car bodywork and Police tape.
No doubt the speed advisory sign indicating a LH corner is the regulation distance back from it - just before the RH corner that precedes it!

WOW  :shok: Is the only thing i can come up with for the road sign.

I guess Roos there are like Deer here.

There was an extremely close call at the 2014 WCR. Moparman (Steve) was leading a group of 6 or so. He was about 10 feet off the bumper of a fully loaded log truck. Out of nowhere a Deer bolts across the road between the log truck and Steve. It happened so fast, Steve never had a chance to hit his brakes.

I'm not the fastest FJ rider, I am 'half-fast', the fastest slow guy....

Too bad we did not have video of that, it was close.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Yah luckily the one I killed with my chest. Only weighed about 120lbs.
Other than the hazards.  I'll bet it was a great ride.
