Historic Plate Registration

Hi All

Rego is due for my 84 Fj, so do I go for Historic Plate Rego or Normal?
Has anybody else gone down this path in Australia & in NSW?

Log books are required and 60 days of riding + club days + maintenance runs to mechanics workshop (I cannot help it if the mechanic I trust to replace my brake light bulb is 500k's away)

Apparently costs are less than $100 compared to normal Rego of about $650

I'm pretty sure Len Bester who was at our rally has historic rego, he is on Facebook, not sure if he gets on here though.

   Alan, my FJ has been on club plates since early last year. Annual rego fee is $51.00 plus your annual club membership fee. In my case the club fee is $40. It really depends on how much you ride your FJ. Sixty days is pretty good for me as I'm also the ride co-ordinator for my club, therefore any multi day rides e.g. FJ Rallys I put in the club calendar and doesn't count as any of my allocated sixty days. If you join a club that happens to be affiliated with another club or two you can also attend their rides and it won't be required to go down in your log book. I think it's a good system but remember it's only on at the moment for a two year trial period so it could change after October 2017.

No wonder Aussies are so passionate about their bikes. With the license fees and insurance rates they have to pay just to ride they have to be very dedicated bikers. Sounds like Pete has the solution to get around those ridiculously high fees. I am lucky to live in Texas where license fees for bikes are $49. I keep three of them licensed. I just relicensed my CB650SC for this year as I didn't have it licensed since 2014 and there were no back fees. Just $49 for another year so I can rotate which of my bikes I want to license for any year. They have historic plates for bikes here but the savings are minimal so might as well license them normally.  Dave

   Alan, I forgot to mention that the $51 rego fee also includes the compulsory third party insurance.

I have Wisconsin collector plates. First one costs $70 you get a collector no assigned to you. And each consecutive one gets a different letter, ABC. And costs $19 and you never have to renew them. Im up to c so 4. If you see someone who has a z on the plate you know he's got quite a collection. Has to be 20 years old. And you can't ride it in the month of February. Unless you get a special permit.

I just sent in for 4 more collector plates. 84 FJ, 79 XS1100, 85SuzSP600, 81XS 650. Allready have one on the 76 RD 400. Definitely the way to go! And not to mention the regular plate renewal is only $23. and that's for two years!!! My insurance is really cheap too, about $150. a year for the FJ. There are alot of good things about living in Wisconsin and this is certainly one of them!  Charley.

Since getting bike going after 10 years sitting in garage last year maybe I thought 60 days wouldn't be enough but work still gets in the way, so 60 should be enough.
It's not a work horse like it used to be getting ridden everyday.
I'd like to start a club but I think the paperwork would kill me,( I do hate paperwork)
Does everyone in the club need to have 30+yo bikes?
Can you pick your number plate or do they remake the one you have at present?
Can club rides be logged for a quick run down the coast and back say a 3 hour run for coffee and chat?

My work structure makes it hard to fit in with special ride days but if I can wrangle a day off and weathers OK then I'll be off and so will all my work mates with me.

I think it will stay around.

Since getting bike going after 10 years sitting in garage last year maybe I thought 60 days wouldn't be enough but work still gets in the way, so 60 should be enough.
It's not a work horse like it used to be getting ridden everyday.
I'd like to start a club but I think the paperwork would kill me,( I do hate paperwork)
Does everyone in the club need to have 30+yo bikes?
Can you pick your number plate or do they remake the one you have at present?

Most of our club members don't have historic age bikes. You are allocated with a historic number plate when you apply for historic rego. I'm fairly sure that you can't keep the plate number you currently have, but I could be wrong. Club rides can be any time or anywhere you choose as long as they are sent out to members as a prescribed club ride. We have several "coffee" rides per year which usually only gets sent out to members with a few days notice.

which club are you talking about ? Can they do the inspections required for Histo Rego ? I got a 73 RD350 that needs the treatment

Greetings all, I have a Victorian Club Permit for my 1980 GSX750. (Shirley)
45 or 90 days in 12 months.
I got 45 days as I figure I mostly ride my FJ.
Cost for 45 days in Vic was 78.00 including 3rd party.
Ride anywhere anytime as long as you stop at Midnight and fill in your log book for the next day.
If you want to extend another 45 days, it's no problem but 90 days in a year is as much as you can get
My only problem is my club plate number is 560 DH.

Hi all
   I have my 86 fj1200 on club rego and my 81 xs1100 and I am just about to put my 73 rd 350
   on as well. I could not run them all without club rego I have a late model bike as well so I
   never run out of days.
   Insurance is a lot cheaper on club plates as well.

Mine has no rego history and I built it up from this



to this



Its not concourse, just using good used parts with a new paint job.

I'm just not familiar with the process of getting it checked over & registered. Does it need a blue slip ?
