It's not going to be easy to make a big bike to a custom..  I know that. But I  am very sure that I can get help from this forum in my project.
At the first point, I do know FJ is not the best start for a custom naked project but I found one that fit my budget, also get good response from some of the forum members, thanks again..

OK. I stripped down the bike after I bought and  a 150 km ride. Maybe it was a little small time to check and find errors but acceptable ride and some minor defects I think I can go with that..

My plan is;

Drop down the engine, clean and paint the engine fins (I'm not going to rebuild engine. I don't have that  budget and also It runs well, ı think )
Chop some of the fairing  mountings from the frame, and subframe, sand it and paint. (Maybe Powder Coat will be nice? need advice*)
Chop the back of the subframe to a cafe racer or streetfighter look.
Rebuild brakes, soda blast and paint the calipers to metallic red
Paint the tank to a matt black
Clean and paint the rims.
Front forks are leaking oil. Rebuild them.
Change all the handlebar equipments. New master cylinder, levers , grips mirrors and accesories.
Make all electric harrness from the scratch. Move all the electrical parts under the tail or seat.
At the end I have to make some tuning to carbs I plan to use red open air filters

Any suggestions  will be  appreciated.
I hope I could manage the budget and finish project:GOLIATH soon. I gonna upload more images by time.

Some Pics.

This is what I want. The filters have to be visible . Those filters are  larger filters that used on cars. I don't know if it gonna work.. We'll see..

Some accesories.. Bought only for motivation  :good2:

Can't believe that levers are come from China. Good quality..
The Vortex handlebars are from USA. 7 degree aimed racing levers.

Well, you certainly seem keen enough, probably the most important part of a project.  :good2:

Do you have a drawing or computer sketch of what you want the finished bike to look like?

Keep us informed as you progress.

Infact I give this project start mid December. Also  Tear down the bike, dropped the engine down, next stage is painting engine frame calipers rims and other parts.
Although  I am a designer, unfortunately I did not sketch up the model don't ask why ;)
What you guys think about frame painting? some says poweder coating is good, some give advice to go with acrylic car paint?

FJmonkey

Powder coat is more forgiving when it comes to impacts from small stones and crap from the road. Either way you go make sure you start with a really clean surface and a good pre-treatment. The pre-treat is like a primer and will take a good powder coat finish to a longer lasting finish. If you want a glossy finish then use the automotive acrylic or find a powder coater that does acrylic powder.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Those look like the same levers I have on the Busa controls on the FJ1100.  Agreed - nice levers and fairly quick shipping.  Bought a second set for the street bike setup.

Hi Folks! Some updates of my project bike I made a lot of things since my last post:

The best of my decision at the beginning was to build a sodablaster cabinet. It makes small parts easily clean and ready to paint.

Engine was in good condition. No need to rebuild it. That's why I concentrate on paint and chop some parts.

I also point out that all the stages in this project I never done before. hope all  goes well  :i_am_so_happy:

Love the floor in your shop....

I have an 1100 I am thinking will go something like this.....

http://barebonerides.com/1989-yamaha-fj1200-bad-ass-brawler.html

Yeah! Barebone Rides was one of my favorites that basically convert   FJ to  a custom style. I love that concept unfortunately not so kinky about welding subframe to the main body. I don't have those welding equipments.
Hope you start a build  threat soon  :good2:

and the story continiues :
I buy smaller  display for a FJ but I hope it gonna be nice and smart Gauge.

I have an ide to add a oil temp sensor to one of the ports on the crank galley. It displays the temp on this gauge.

This sandblaster cabinet built for sanding small parts. It stays a little weak but it works at least for this project  :good2:

Hi Folks! I started that project nine months ago with full of passion and I am now glad to say that I run that beast on the road again.
I done several mods in that time, most of thew procedure is cleaning derusting and painting. I share the procedure on a customfighters community http://www.customfighters.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119705
I think it will be nice to share some of the procedure here, hope you enjoy and give me some ideas about future addons (any comments are wellcome)

I uploaded all of the project photos. Check it out : https://goo.gl/photos/quYoHtDfr8uTB8kg8

Wow you went to town on that project.
Superb work.
A really nice example of the street fighter look
Personally I think the Fj should have come with a black frame
