Does anybody have any experience with Beowulf mufflers on a 3cv model FJ1200.

Loads of people seem to use the Delkevnic mufflers but after reading the fitment issues I'm not sure if they are
a straight fit?

Happy Christmas everyone!! :good2:

I don't know of any members in the US that have Beowulf slip ons. I know that they were offered by the FJ Owners club UK, but they are no longer available. The slip ons that they offer now are Viper slip ons.

Hullo Fred,

I logged onto the Beowulf website and they had 17 different versions of slip-ons listed for FJ1200's.
The ones I'm interested in are the 450mm round stainless steel versions and they list for 298 pounds including
delivery to Australia.
That's sort of ball park dollars as far as Delkevnic stuff lists for.
I'd prefer round to oval mufflers.

Cheers Ian.

I ordered a set of the stainless round 450mm Beowulf mufflers today.
Price was 248 pounds plus 50 pounds delivery(UK money).
I'll let you know how they look, fit and if they are worth buying.

Cheers Ian.

Good one Ian.  Let us know.  how much louder/ good sound /bad sound  plus how easy to fit.

I'm chasing some pipes eventually but was put off by the delkevnic's fitment. cheers ken

What type are you currently using?  Stock?

bikemad

I never updated this thread.
The bike was bought as a project bike and had the std headers and I discovered had a damaged collector box.
So in the end I have modified the collector and run with one muffler on the right hand side.
The Beowulf mufflers are very nicely made and a great quality product.
As a 4-1 it isn't too loud and these come with a decent db killer.

I can't comment on the twin system but they are a quality product.

I got a pair of the stainless oval 450mm cans back in October last year. They actually came off an FJR, but I got in touch with Beowulf who sent me a mounting kit and links pipes for my 3CV.

Fitting was a bit fiddly, the mounting brackets for the cans wouldn't fit the footrest mounts as per instructions. I think they were supposed to go at the back of the bracket; I ended up fitting them on the front, between the foot peg and bracket. Still holding OK.

I also found them a bit of a pain to 'level up', i.e. getting them the same hight/distance from the bike when viewed from the rear.

Quality wise they seem good, they've been through an English winter without any attempt at cleaning, they even got submerged in the floods we had here back in December. Yet they came up nice and shiny with just a wipe over with WD40 of ACF50.

As for the sound, two aspects here. When I'm off the bike, they are louder than stock, as expected, though not intrusively so. They have a nice deep rumble at tick-over, which continues, just a little louder, when it is revved.

What it sounds like to by-standers when ridden I don't know, I'll have to get Linda to do a 'fly-by' for me to find out.

The main problem I find with them is the noise when I'm riding it. Whilst it's not over loud, that deep resonant growl is constantly in my ears, just a little to loud for comfort. That's with the DB killers in, not tried it with them out. Now this may be partly down to my preference for 'flip-front' lids, not renowned for their quietness, and the fact that mine is overdue for replacement probably doesn't help. Decent quality earplugs are a must on anything but short journeys.

By comparison, Linda has had a BMW G650 X Country, with a dealer fitted Akraprovic exhaust. Now even with the DB killers in, when she accelerates in front of me it sounds like someone has just opened up at point-blank range with a machine gun. Having just bought that bike off her, I decided the first 'mod' would be to ditch the Akro in favour of the stock can. But when I rode it all day last Sunday, I could hardly here it when riding. No need for earplugs at all, even with my knackered lid.

I think it might just be the particular note/resonance of the Beowulfs that make them a bit intrusive; I'll have to see what they're like with a new lid.

But that aside, I'd definitely recommend them.
Unfortunately I am no longer young enough to know everything...

OK, I'd be putting my money on the frequency of the exhaust note rather than the noise level.

My exhaust is quite loud but at highway cruising speeds I can barely here it. The induction noise is louder than the exhaust.

At lower speeds it's very noisy but by 100 kph I can no longer hear it unless I pour on the throttle and even then it's not intrusive.

I do, the wind noise will cause hearing loss over time. Here in SoCal we can legally wear ear plugs on a MC. I see many riders with standard ear buds for music but they do not protect your hearing unless they seal out external noise properly. These may not be legal but they are rated to block noise and provide sound.

An old topic, but i wonder it the db killer in combination with the standard db eater of Beowolf cq Delkevic are a good solution to reduce the sound of the cans.

I conciddering to buy the linkpipes of Beowolf with their separate bracket supplied and to welding them on the Jama cans i own. I like the sound of my Jama and i am sure i can use these exhaust this way on my 3XW as wel on an 3CV.
