Hi all,
I recently bought an FJ1200 that has been on this earth from 1988 up until now and hopefully will be on this earth for a lot longer.
I'd like to Make a few minor changes like add panniers, raise up the handlebars and fit a larger screen but otherwise, apart from being chain driven the FJ suits my purposes very well.

Gooday patsparks and welcome!
It's not old it's IMMORTAL!
I've often been asked, 'What do you old folks do now that you're retired'?

"Well. I'm fortunate to have a chemical engineering background, and one of the things I enjoy most is turning beer, wine, Scotch, and margaritas into urine."

Arnie

Hi Pat,

Welcome to the madhouse.  All the things you want to do are easily accomplished.  And the chain is really not much of a hassle - just make and fit a chain oiler and you can usually forget about it for a long time.
Funny thing about the FJ, they just don't age.  Still amongst the quick bikes and the styling hangs in just fine.  Swap the rear wheel so you can use modern rubber and you're set for another 20 years.

Cheers,
Arnie

Morning Pat, welcome to FJ land. I don't think we have anyone else from SA, but there are more and more Aussies joining up.

Well as the warning  has reminded me, life has got in the way and visits to any internet forums have been thin on the ground.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.
I'm no newbee to forums and I to have some life long friends around the world due to forum activities.  Even got a free trip to the USA but that's another story.
The FJ is still going well but I haven't been on her as often as I would have liked.  Just noticed something odd though, there is oil leaking onto the top of the front fender.  It has run down onto the front tyre which is a bit scary.  I'll search the site and see if someone else has had a similar experience.

Harvy

Pat, the only thing I can think of is fork seals leaking, or as a long shot, a leaking oil cooler?

Are you sure it's oil?  Could it be brake fluid from the splitter? That would be real bad.
