Overflow tubes

Taking my Fj1200 86 carbs apart and noticed that my overflow tubes are more or less black and melted.  I found a leak when i was doing my first test run of the bike and thought I had better replace all the "O" rings with a fresh set from RPM, so before I make my order, anyone have any suggestions on what do do about the overflow tubes?

Two of the needle set Assy were froze in place so bad that I will have to replace them, so I figure the other two "O" rings are bad and will need to be replaced as well.

New float bowel gaskets and then the "O" ring set for all the other cracked and or damaged rubber.

I am more or less stuck if I don't find a good replacement or conversion for the the overflow tubes though.  I will not put the ones I have back on.

Thanks..

Had to find some off of ebay to replace them.  So has anyone else seen this problem with a FJ1200?  Just wondering, as this is my first FJ :)

Are you missing the heat shield? #2 in the parts image.

That is really cooked, makes me wonder how hot the engine got to cook the fittings...

I don't think that engine heat was responsible for that damage. Looks more like fire damage. Maybe a fuel leak onto a damaged or unsealed exhaust?

Yes I thought the same thing, looked around and nothing else is damaged.  The heat shield is there big runs good except for the leak or out of level float.  The surrounding area of the carbs is fine and nothing else seems to be melted like this.

That part is a little hard to find, unless one of you knows a part number for one of the other yr bikes that might be the same.  I would really like to put new overflow tubes on and now some used ones.

Two of the needle seats were more or less welded into place, so these carbs have been sitting for a while.  Parts are in the mail, hope the good weather holds up on WI so I can get a test ride in before the cold.

At some point, someone might have used some sort of harsh chemical to try and clean the carbs. It may have attacked the plastic itself, and softened it?  :unknown:

That is 100% fire damage.

I'll get you the hose size later today.

If you still need the tee(s) let me know, I have plenty.

How do you ride a bike that is on fire and not know?    :yahoo:  Would have looked awesome at night...

Would have been a sign of a real good time.   Perhaps someone purchased that set of carbs off e bay or something and used them to replace what was on it ? Just a thought.

Perhaps someone used a propane torch to soften the rubber hoses so they could remove them?

That would have been exciting to watch.

LOL, yes watching someone drive by with flaming carbs would be funny, as long as no one gets hurt.  This is a puzzle, but it seems that is the only thing that is damaged on the carbs.  Well that and how much dried varnish was in them.  All ready to go back together as soon as the "O" ring set and "Overflow Tubes" arrive in the mail.
