Well our riding season is coming to an end up here and as usual it is flying past fast, speaking of fast I want to comment on my second season with FrankenJ. My J is the ITX version. To be honest I use everything I can squirt out of this bike, I have been so hard on this bike that I feel guilty after rides. The reason I am blabbing is this bike seems to really take a beating from me and its legend and still around is just proof that with proper care these motors can take some serious abuse. So with another admission, I ride a dualsport XR 667 L air cooled like our FJ's, jumping between bikes is really strange at first and takes a while to find the groove, that being said, I have BLOWN so many shifts on the FJ when ringing its neck it is shamefull, I thought the 86 had a rev limiter, man have I over reved this bike, I hang my head in shame for that.  Cheers its Friday

I thought they all had an OEM  rev limit of 9.5K. After market ignitions may alter the rev limit.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

As far as I know my bike has stock ignition Mark and I have seen the tack past 11, easiest thing to do would be to learn how to shift it eh! I just seem to blow 3rd or forth mostly when the boiler is on full, maybe I am rushing to quick on the shift and need to slow up a bit but man its so much fun to feel that pull. Cant really imagine doing a full roll on with 200 HP, but I would give it a try.

I will need to make a run with my GPS off to see if I can get past 10K.

Yes the old FJ can take a lot of abuse.

But it does show up sooner or later. I have had My FJ for over 30 years, and always treated it with respect.

It is one Hellava Bike.....

Yes all FJ,s have a rev limiter ,however they do not always cut out at the same RPM. Some cut out at 9.5 while others will go to 12k.
This topic came up at the Renegade Rally this year and RPM randy cleared it up. Some of us have found the limit and others hàve not.

Didnt know that is there any way to identify which limiter you have by looking or is a test ride needed..Limiter is in the ignition box right.

Can anyone explain how this works?
