leaking gas tiank

I've had this ongoing problem for a few years with the gas tank seeping fuel at the clip that holds the fuel filter.  I've smeared JB weld over the entire area and it seems to work for a while but then eventually I get a gasoline residue on the tank at that area.

I'm guessing that I need to remove the tank, drain it, remove the JB weld and have it brazed?   Has anyone done this and / or does anyone have any advise?  Horror stories? Should the clip be removed before brazing it back on?  I don't even know if brazing is the fix... I'm just guessing.    I'm hoping this problem is repairable.

It depends on the condition of the tank. Get a dental mirror and a penlight and look inside. If it's rusty, you have a decision to make. Spend $$$ and have it professionally restored, or get a FJ tank in better condition and have it resprayed.

Brazing fuel tanks is not for the novice. Things can go horribly wrong.  I would have a pro do it.

My '89 had the same problem.

We cleaned the area and reflowed the brazed joint, adding some rod and flux along the way.  It took a few tries to get it look decent (lots of sputtering), but the final result was a success, as it is still holding after 2 seasons in use.
