I was reading somewhere here about pinging in hot weather with standard plugs and switching to colder ones in hotter weather. Any recommendations which exact type is standard and which one I could also use in brutal hot caribbean weather? Thx

I have both the NGK standard & iridium colder range plugs in stock:

NGK - Iridium Racing Spark Plug (1 Stage Colder Heat Range)
NGK- Spark Plug (1 Stage Colder than Stock)

The standard plug for the FJ is an NGK dp8ea-9, I think their a pretty cold plug as it is. Not sure how it works but I think the higher the end number the colder the plug.

The heat in Australia in summer can be brutal as well, but I don't think I've ever heard mine pinging even with the 4 deg advance mod. I run 95 octane fuel which might help it a bit, but haven't heard anyone else mention pinging at all.

Yep, I've got the same plugs, according to manual. Tested on long ride on 45 °C. Mine currently have almost 15000 km. No problems.

I don't think you'll have problems with NGK. As I said, mine have gone almost 15000 km, from -20 to 45 °C.

The heat range of the plug is the first number 8 in this case:  DPR8EA-9
Between the center electrode and the ground eletrode is the factory pre-set gap, here its the -9 On some plugs they make them with varying gaps.

I regularly run U/L 91 octane fuel and on very hot days can get some mild pinging.  I now use 95 when its very hot.  Using a fuel with higher octane really has no benefit if its not needed.
