Yesterday, I went out with a buddy to look at a Vulcan he wanted to buy.

We didn't make it. Got rear-ended on 169. His Kawi is a sure total loss, frame is folded in half. He was hit full on, landed in the grass of the divider. I got a glancing blow to the left rear, flew over and landed in the right lane. FJ landed on the shoulder. Whale tail is busted, right scoop is toast, crankshaft cover scraped to a hole, muffler a little rashed, and it doesn't start, couldn't find neutral. Don't know what happened.

We are mostly okay physically. Real sore, though. Jackets absorbed the rash, helmets soaked up the bumps to the head.

My mom says at my age I should know better than to get on the road on one of these things. I said it sounds like she's proposing I start racing at the track...

I'm here to post about this, and that's what's important. Still pissed, though. I JUST got it running right and looking decent. Put in new windshield bolts in yesterday morning.

Glad you and your friend are OK. Bikes are replaceable. Also glad you were wearing some gear. Hope the other driver had insurance. Heal well you are not alone when it comes to a dropped bike.

Was the rain a factor? Where's the vehicle that rear ended you? car?

I need to buy leathers for the wife and I, first I have to loose a few pounds though.

She was on the back when I was knocked over onto my right side a couple weeks ago, luckily that sides engine guard saved the case. The one on the left side was off awaiting welding.

Still I need a new RH mirror, the fairing was scratched, on top of other scratches, the RH fork seal started leaking, and finally when I got to my street and tried to turn left, I felt a very abnormal resistance, which I had to muscle through, though now it's gone. Of course I was going to replace the head bearings/races anyway as there was a little slop, just doing it sooner now. Luckily we were approaching a red light and only going about 5-15 MPH. Still it freaked me out/pissed me off a little becasue my bike had never been put on it's side while motoring, prior to that. It had only ever been dropped on it's sides due to my not ensuring the ground would support the bikes weight via the stands. I've been lucky so far.

My heart goes out to you buddy, I hope their insurance takes care of it for you, good luck!

Glad you're okay. FJ's are replaceable. People aren't.

Driver admitted to the cops he was distracted. I'm guessing he had insurance, since cops didn't ticket him for not having it. Should all be in the police report.

Here in Idaho insurance information is exchanged at the scene as it is mandatory to have with the vehicle paper work. Perhaps your riding partner got it. Glad you are here to talk about it.

As a weird side note the state of Washington requires no insurance of any kind for motorcycles but if you ride with out an adequate wind screen and have your helmet cocked open you can be sited.

Some LEO's do not view sport bikes a having "adequate" wind screen.

He was more out of it than I was. I do know police took down my insurance info.

We just have mandatory eye protection. Prescription glasses qualify.

NOT HAPPY to read this post! (Well, happy that you ARE here to write it, just not about the subject...)

One of my friends just recently got his motorcycle endorsement, and purchased a 2006 Yamaha FZ6. We've been out riding a couple of times now, and he really enjoys biking. We're just trying to be safe, and get him some experience on the roads. I WILL be sharing this thread with him.

Do Not wait, buy some decent gear, some of the newer textiles have very good armour and can be adjusted over quite a range of body sizes.

A custom form fitting set of Leathers may be "Cool", tho expensive, they wont help until you get them.

Sorry to hear about the crash. Sad to see an FJ like that.
