You obviously haven't ridden one.

It is the most awesome bike I have ever ridden.

Last week I fell in with a group of R1s, Ducati Corse, and S1000RR.

I let 2 of them by then attached myself to the second guys rear tire.  The third guy never got close until I decided to stop riding like an idiot, slowed down and waved him by.  Curves that I'm hanging off, riding 9/10ths on the FJ and scaring myself, I'm sitting bolt upright in the seat, going at least 10mph faster through and not even breaking sweat on that ugly Beemer.

thanks for all the support for my illness
the BMW- no doubt awsome but, i wont go with the Euro bike
the Yamahas have proven themselves to be one of the most reliable
i will say, the fueling at lowthrottle (maintenence throttle specificly) sucks!  very poor modulation- i get arm pump trying to keep it from bucking
i found the solution, and it is on its way
it needs a flash-i now posses the hardware and software, i am waiting on the exhaust!!!
i just think it is a problem buying a RR- it was ment for the track and the throttle positions i see in the turns on the streets are not fast enough to support 1/4,1/2 throttle positions

that crossplane moter is certainly "male enhancement"

The complaints of poor fueling-poor fuel modulation-jerky throttle response on a variety of brands and sizes of new bikes is a result of these motors being "tuned" for emission results and not performance. With an ECU reflash most of these symptoms get better or disappear completely. The ECU reflash business is booming. To bad we have to invest more money in reflashes to get our bikes to run like they should.  Dave

Well, it appears that once again Yamaha has released a crap fuel injection program.  Congratulations for paying $20K to be their beta tester.  Just like the second gen FZ1, FJR, and first year FZ09.  

Seems like they eventually get it right, but not until after a multitude of owners pay big bucks to the aftermarket.  I think it is commendable that they are reflashing the FZ09s for free.

I don't understand that comment.  The BMW's fueling is absolutely FLAWLESS!  Not a glitch or stumble from idle to whatever I've reved it to so far.  Oh, I see you're talking specifically about the RR.  I've never ridden an RR, but I can say the XR is fabulous.  I took a chance buying it after only a 5 mile test ride on city streets.  Once I got it into the twisties, all I can say is I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

The guy I rode with last month on new R1 said he had be conservative on some of the software options.  Too aggressive and he said it was impossible to ride smoothly on the street.  The magazines are kind of saying the same thing.  The harder you ride it the better it works.

i was not referring to the S1000RR specifically
they really weren't designed for stoplights and city riding
my friend said similar things about his HP4, it all went away when he piped it and mapped it on the dyno- i never rode it before that but, it was fantastic when i did
all of my gsxr's made small power gains with a pipe and a dyno tune-they all made HUGE gains in throttle response
i expect the same from the R1

hooligan, the BMW is a fantastic bike and i am sure you will continue to enjoy it thru your ownership-it just does not make my socks go up and down when i see it like the R1 does

So what is your point?  That you follow well?  Or that you are capable of riding like an idiot? 

Competing with most of those motorcycles you mention and a host of others the FJ acquits itself very well; not to mention riding with the group of FJ's at the WCR, none of whom have the need to "hang off".   

Stay in good humor mr. happy h.

For the record, I have ridden with both of you Mike, and if Hooligan feels that the new bike handles significantly better than a well sorted FJ... I would probably take his word for it. You both ride well and can cover ground at a quick pace Bu unless Hooligan is not who I think he is He tends to be a slightly smoother and nore natural rider.

Hopefully you can both make it to the fall rally and hash it out in person. Otherwise its just an internet cockfight and nobody ever wins those.

So what is your point?  That you follow well?  Or that you are capable of riding like an idiot?

I'd have to say that I'm more capable of riding like an idiot with the BMW.

It was never meant to be a swipe at the FJ.  I've ridden the FJ with this same group.  If I'm cornering at 60 to 70 mph, there's no need to run 130 on the straights.  That's the way these idiots ride around here since there are few curves and lots of straight.

The FJ gives nothing up to them in the corners, it loses on the straights because the rider is unwilling to stretch the throttle cable that much.

It's never the bike anyway.  I've had guys leave me in the dust riding inferior equipment.
