hey all, Ive seen pictures of chopped down tail ends to make single seaters but I cant find any form of write up on it. so if anyone has any pictures of what they did if they could post them I would be greatful.

also might be silly question but im going to source parts to do this so I can convert back to stock if needed. I have found a fj1100 subframe going dirt cheap, is there any difference between 11 and 12 subframes

cheers

I'm in the middle of doing this for my Turbo bike. The seat pan has 2 ridges that are separated by a smooth section remove the smooth section. And overlap the 2 ridges. The rear over the front. Latch it down to the bike. And plastic weld them together. Shortens the passenger section of the seat just about 4". I'm going to have it upholstered to look like the Corbin gunfighter. Only 4" shorter. Cutting the subframe 4" shorter. Using the tail cowling. But filling the grab handle divots. And cutting the side panels to angle up to the black part of the tail section. Cutting the grab handles down to match the angle of the black part of the tail section. To use them to hold the tail section down to the subframe. I'm going to post it in my Turbo bike build eventually. But just got back from 35 day sabbatical. And now it's riding weather...sorry gotta ride while I can in Wisconsin.

Couldn't find the pics, but TRoy shortened his 86 tail section. Looks great. he then painted it white and grey with black decals. AWESOME!

Yah TRoy posted some up for me when I said I was thinking about doing this. But I can't find them. I never can find anything when I search. I'm search deficient.
He said he had the shortened tail section in storage somewhere. And jokingly said he should did it out and send it to me.

well i wasn't joking :) "the kit" consists of the subframe, side panels and seat. it works with stock tail section & handles. couple zip ties and sturdy spacer under the battery box and you're good to go. yours if you want it. need to work out a fender extender tho. every molecule of moisture that the rear tire rolls over ends up on the FRONT of your helmet and tankbag and even on the windscreen.

these work? : http://fjowners.com/gallery/8/23_10_01_15_8_07_21.jpeg

yes...double check me here but i think...  84-85 have different handrails and mounts than 86-87.. but they bolt up to the bike the same. at some point they changed to a muffler bracket on the subframe instead of the sideplate, maybe 88-90? 91-93 are differnt altogether

I just saw this on facebook today. From the post the bike is in Europe and I don't know what the language was on the post. Looks like the OEM sub-frame is retained.
