Hi all
I have just bought my second fj1200 after a twelve year break it's a 1989 3cv exactly like the one I had in San Francisco all those years ago...I left it in for a service and got it back Saturday to find it raving high, overheating and leaking petrol so it's gone back to the shop to hopefully get sorted out.....will let you know how it turns out.....Really hope I have not let my heart rule my head.

The FJ is easy to work on so you can save on the cost of maintenance by doing some or all of it yourself. The over heating and revving high sounds like a vacuum leak. Leaking fuel is most likely from a stuck float, debris under the float needle, possible failed o-ring on the float needle seat. Welcome back to FJ ownership, with a little love your '89 will be back in the Kookaloo zone.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Welcome ! Let us know what it was causing the over rev..  As FJmonkey said most of us do our own maintenance or at least have an idea where the problem is.

Hi Bones there is a name on it can't recall what it is but will let you know when I get bike back.

The problem with the leaking fuel turns out to be a shut off valve letting the fuel run through pump and out carbs a bit strange thought the pump would have stopped it......still should be home soon :biggrin:

If the pump has a failed valve and if the valve cannot be replaced, then time for a new pump. Way less expensive than FJ shaped ball of fire. Especially if you happen to be on it or it is in your garage....

Sounds like you also have a failed needle and seat valve.  There are two safety's.  The fuel pump valve and the needle and seats.  The needle and seat can fail at the seat or the sealing O ring around the needle and seat assembly.  All fixable.  There are aftermarket fuel pumps that are less expensive than a stock one.

Hi move on he went through whole carb system replaced worn seals test drove not reving over 1500 says he will replace fuel pump if need be has one in the shop as I'm working the next few nights will pick it up on wed. Happy Days no extra charge :yahoo:
