The Drive E0 team has built themselves a car that could possibly take the overall record in the Electric class.

It's going to be driven by Rhys Millen, and uses (2) of these 3-motor stacks. One for the front wheels, and one for the rear wheels.
Each 3-motor stack produces the equivalent of 680 horsepower and 796 ft/lbs of torque!
That's a total of 1360 horsepower, and 1592 ft/lbs of torque!  :shok:

They have started prepping the course................. :sarcastic:

What class is this guy running in?

Noel

That's the Pikes Peak "Trail-Blaze" class.

They usually don't post very competitive times.

I may have to bring my "Deep Snow" boots and gear for the event this year. (snowshoes anyone?)
I don't see all that snow melting by the end of the month.  :unknown:

It looks like the top of the mountain is beginning to thaw out.
These pictures are from 6:30am this morning.

You can actually see the Cog-Railway tracks now.

It also looks like the road up to the summit has been plowed, as well as the parking lot at the top.

They might be able to hold the event as scheduled after all.  :yahoo:

Thanks george.

Ron and I were watching Isle of Man TT coverage earlier this week, and noticed that it was sponsored by Victory Motorcycles.
We both looked at each other, and thought "What could Victory Motorcycles possibly have in common with these bikes?"
Then we saw this video to promote their Pikes peak effort. Now we know.  :pardon:

Interesting to see there engineering and development.  Racing brings out a lot of talent and creativity that benefits all of us.  Nice they are helping to sponsor the race.

Rhys Millen qualified this car with the quickest time overall.
The first time ever an Electric vehicle qualified P-1 on Pikes peak.

Can't wait till Sunday!  :yahoo:

Remember this moment...You are witnessing history.

It's just a matter of time until electrics dominate closed course racing. :good2:

Imagine how our world is going to change when we are no longer dependent on dino juice. With solar and battery technology gaining ground, it can't be too long.

I, for one, am really looking forward to a electric trail bike that has the power of my KTM 450 AND enough of a range to ride for several hours with a bent wrist.

The Zero FX zx5.7 is over $10K and has a range of 40-70 miles.

The KTM Freeride E has about an hour of battery life, which, with an extra battery, wouldn't be bad for the track but tough on trails.

I got to touch a Freeride E at the Fox Headquarters a few months ago. It is light and sleek.

Best wishes to the EO Team and Roland Sands and the boys from Victory! :good2:

Got a close-up view of the Roland Sands/Victory "Project 156" last night during Fan-Fest.

They also brought their Electric bike.

I also got to meet Rhys Millen last night. He is a really cool guy.

I spent about 10 minutes talking to him about the car, the mountain, and how the grip levels up there are.
He also told me a little bit about the team. They are just 4 guys....................The Dad, His Son (whom are both the engineers of the project), and two mechanics.........That's it!
For such a small team, they sure have accomplished quite a bit.
Rhys said that the car is plenty powerful enough to break the overall record. He is still getting used to how the car drives, and feels that he might not have enough seat-time in the car at full power, and could be the limiting factor.
I got a good look at the car. It's tiny! Slightly smaller and shorter than a modern LMP2 car.
With the power level they have, it is a rocket!

I found this video of one of his practice runs. It's in 360 degree format, so not all browsers are supported.
It works fine on my iphone.

It will be fun to watch, that's for sure!
I hope the weather holds out up there tomorrow.

Absolutely smoked the competition at 9:07.22

History was made today. It's the beginning of the end for ICE in closed course racing.

Wait and see.
