Spot Messengers have been discussed here before so I won't go through it again but I did find this example of their efficiency very cool.



As you can see from the photo below, the Spot locates us just below and to the right of "Hull Bridge"





This was sent on my brother's (John) Spot.

As I am one of the recipients of his messages, I looked on my phone 30 secs later and it told me where I was standing to within a few metres.

I then took a photo from that exact location, the barely visible light is the entrance to the tunnel and saw tooth edge the top of it.



This is the coverage you can expect from it. I don't know about you, but this takes in all the territory I'm ever likely to ride.



For any members who ride out of the way places alone or in a group out of mobile/cell phone range, this is a must. It has four levels of message from everything's good, to send the cavalry.



Don't leave home without it!

A skeleton and Triumph bike were found just out of view of the road here in Australia a couple of years ago. It was only a couple of metres off the side of a busy road (The Putty Road) It was found by roadside grass slashers. It was determined the rider was unlikely to have suffered fatal injuries, but was unable to move. He most likely died over days from exposure or dehydration. He was reported missing three and half years earlier.

An amendment to that. Even on a busy road, or close to a city, if no one sees you go over the edge, you're still in trouble if you can't make it back to the road to hail someone down.

Yep, there is a range of fees depending on the level of service you want. A basic service is where you push a button to send a pre written message, such as "All OK" and you location (like in the post) up to  leaving a bread crumb trail with a message sent automatically from 5 minute intervals up.

The basic service is about $100/year. Sounds like a lot of money now but I guess if you were to consider the investment from the bottom of a 400' ravine with broken bones and a smashed up/out of range phone you might view it differently.

I have one of the first gen devices and have used it quite a bit.  I pay for the tracking feature, since family and friends like to follow along when I go on motorcycle trips.  Lots of people tune in when I go to Australia.

Thankfully I haven't needed to press the 911 button.
