Which application of "Blue Dot" calipers is best for an '89 FJ? I noticed they were used on some newer YZF600R, some R1s, R6s and FZ1s. Which ones would also benefit from a master cylinder change. Thanks. Jeff.

Correction:  Find the blue dots that are from the right years/models, there's a handy reference in the post below~!

Even the stock brakes benefit from a master swap.

the "blue dots" aka sumitomo monoblocs come in several varieties. All non radial mounts have the same mounting pattern as do the more recent "gold dots".

The YZF600 is the oldest design readily available and is identified by the external transfer lines from one side of the caliper to the other. These are an improvement over the stock FJ but weak compared to the later designs. The 98-0_ R1 and 99-0_ monoblocs identified by blue "dots" are all essentially the same and were installed on R6, R1, and FZ1. 0_-04 R1 and R6 had the gold dot which features an alloy piston that is lighter than the earlier models, but can potentially transfer more heat.

around 04-05 the R1 and R6 went to a radial mount monobloc caliper.

Has anyone else used an FJR1300 Master cylinder? I just picked up both a brake master cylinder, and clutch master cylinder off of an 05 FJR1300 I plan to use with the Gold-pot R1 calipers, and braided lines. :unknown:

Same here. No urine cups for me. The adjustable levers are frosting on the cake.
