Welcome !! Glad you have recovered and able to get back to riding.  Lots of help here if and when you need it.  Ask questions as you go.  Where are you located there might be fellow members in your area ?  :good2:

Welcome to the best forum in the world (no bias at all) hope to see more of you in here. Great people with lots of knowledge. What part of the globe we call Earth (bit of a crappy name that. Might put in to have it changed - Planet FJ maybe.....will think on it) do you hail from.

Welcome to the group  :hi:

Has it been 8 yrs since you rode also or just owned a motorcycle?

The FJ is a great bike with a bunch of us crazy followers here... The modifications that can be done to make it even better seem to never stop, somebody is always coming up with the next thing to do. There is a files section with all kinds of mods documented on how to.

I would like to see a picture of your Fj so I can tell what split year 88 you have . Some are closer to 87's with some more 89's . Careful trying to get parts as you will have to order for the 87 or 89 . An easy way to tell is if you have a 17" front wheel you have an 89.

After you get it running be wary of the power rush that comes on after 6k rpm, it might give you another heart attack .

I applaud your choice of getting back in the saddle.  Motorcycles are good for the soul and they are a good incentive to stay healthy.   Welcome to the group.

at present
1. fairing removed and repaired
2. front calipers stripped new seals and pistons
3  rear caliper finally stripped both piston were stuck fast (thank god I have compressor)
4  new front tyre purchased ,rear on order
5  fitted my nonfango system used fitting instruction I found online for givi
6  air box removed to repair a hole where it bolts under seat
7  throttle cables all past it  ,carbs ready for strip and rebuild
8  seat fully recovered

finding it hard to find full set of throttle cable for my 1tx woundering will cables from the next models fit

engine runs great just slight sound from starter chain ,camchain is as should but might service and reset tensioner
folks have had the anti dive removed but tempted to upgrade front end to take the 17inch wheel

but its a lot of fun

NewFJ1200,
Welcome to our madhouse!   The FJ is really something special, for me anyway.  Riders here will have tons of expertise for you, if needed.

+1 on Mark's caution above; you probably want to stay out of the upper RPM ranges for a while, at least until you get a good handle on the bike.
The adventure begins . . .  :good2:

Cheers,
Red

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

The throttle cables (total of 4) are the same from 1984-1990

It looks like Randy is having cables 3 & 4 custom made as they are NLA from Yamaha. If you can't find something look at their site. If you still can't find it email them.
