Hi, another short term lurker here,

Living in north queensland, Mackay.

bought 1990 3cv fj1200 about 8 months ago with unknown KM on the clock (said 38,000 but i'd be inclined to say it is 138k ) :-)

no matter tho, she still honks along with the latest blackbirds/xjr's/duc's etc

bought in may, replaced all wheel bearings, stearing bearings, rear rortors/pads, bulbs, stripped the fairing and fibreglass kitteed various cracks in the fairing. done about 8,000km since then and goes great!

front mudguard (rear section) has cracked the mounts off completely, (after some fibreglassing), so Will be either looking to refabricate the whole fron (rear section guard) or hunting down a second and one (all Ive seen are broken ones the same), or an alternate mud guard off a different model?

I have a new tyre on the front Avon Storm AV55, which made a hughe difference to the fron t handling, but will still bottom out occasionally.

So I really don't want to spend $ on a whole front end conversion yet.

anyway, great forums for fj owners!

Cheers, stevo.

Gooday Stevo & welcome.
How's the wet season treating you?
I've often been asked, 'What do you old folks do now that you're retired'?

"Well. I'm fortunate to have a chemical engineering background, and one of the things I enjoy most is turning beer, wine, Scotch, and margaritas into urine."

G'day and welcome stevodude, keep us informed on the progress with the front guard, mate. I've got a similar situation to yours to deal with. I spoke to a local wrecker today (he's got 3 fj1100s in stock) and says he's never had a fj come in with an intact  front guard. Maybe they're like hens teeth, here in Oz!  Regards, Peter.

Well Ihad a day off, so I went and scored some 3x20mm aluminum bar, and a sheet of 1mm aluminum, in the hopes of building a guard.

results you see below, with the addition of a rubber mud flap after I build the guard and put it on, then found some rubber matting lying around the workshop, now it's probably better than original, albiet DIY looking hahaha

Total cost including stainless nuts/bolts and aluminium pop rivets $15, but took a couple of hours to design, cut, bend and drill.

pickies are a bit fuziie being a phone camera.

ps I'll be 40 ...  FOURTY! in a couple of weeks, so i'll throw in a couple of smilleys just incase it works.     :yahoo: :yahoo: :drinks:

Arnie

Well, your efforts at repairing/strengthening the guard look serviceable, but butt ugly.
Couldn't you have made the brace to fit INside the guard and paint the legs black to help hide them?

BTW, you can put as many smileys in your message as you like, it still won't get you into a teenage girl any easier.

Welcome to the madhouse,
Arnie

stevodude

yes, she is a tad square looking, and painting takes time out from riding.

maybe when I build a mkII front guard, I'll most likely replace the whole guard to make it look cleaner.
