I have a fj1100 well it's a 1200 wisco build now with cams and all but I have a brake question.
I have a 17" 1989 wheel but have trouble finding 89+ forks for it.
Has anyone ever tried installing R1 4 pots on the 85 forks by making a mounting bracket?
Any ideas would be helpful
If it's not broken, fix it anyways

The FJ mods site:

http://www.fjmods.btinternet.co.uk/BrakeUpgrades.htm#Anchor96821

shows various caliper upgrades including using brackets. A bolt-on 4 pot option for early FJs is using FZR400 calipers – though these may be hard to find.

I was there and see it calls for a fzr400rr caliper
is a fzr400 the same?

While these are 6pot zx9 brakes, the idea would probably work with R1 brakes.  Might have to watch the length of the lines though, as this moves the caliper down quite a lot.

Seems the '86 (FZR400) was 2 pot and the later bikes (FZR400R, RR etc) were 4 pot. I am not really familiar with this bike. In the UK we got the FZR600, I think the 400s here were Japanese "grey" imports. If you are thinking about fitting R1 etc "Blue Spot" calipers try to find YZF750 6 pots – I think they are better. I have two FJs and use both. (I may be in a minority of one on this!)
