just oil and abs lights come on when push start 92 fj1200

as title says.i had just changed the split link on my chain and put covers back on.went to start bike and it did turn over for a very short time then just stopped.all i get now is the oil and abs lights coming on.no clicking or any other noise.i did take covers off again and checked the neutral and side stand wires.they look ok.battery is fully charged.

First tip, try adding spaces and capitols to your posts. Some won't respond. 1, Check the kill switch if it on. 2, Check the side stand switch. Is it stuck? Spray lube make sure it is working. 3, put the bike in neutral and try starting it. Hope this helps.

Right.not sure how to edit post but will do in future. As for kill switch,side stand switch. Pretty much obvious things. Do you know where the main earth/ground wire goes to frame or engine? Could be a bad earth somewhere. Its electrical advice im looking

How did you check battery is fully charged? (Multimeter alone will not suffice).

Had the same prob on my DR650 in the bush once.....just put my long nose pliers across the starter relay main connections to bridge out the relay. (while I had the ignition switch on). The result could lead me tracking a number of faults......but fortunately it started....ordered a new starter relay when I got home. (Same little trick on an outboard motor got me home from fishing at sea once!....though I used multigrips....just gotta be confident of what some of the sparks are about when you haven't got a press hard connection....their only 12 volts but they got a bit of amperage through a starter....be careful not ta touch the frame with your bridge and make sure there`s not too much fuel vapour about.)

...but I`d double check the battery first. Then those switches mentioned with a multimeter or test lamp.     :drinks:

Ok ,, So all was fine until you changed the master link in your chain is what I gathered from your post . You removed side covers (plastic ones? or the metal one covering the drive sprocket?)

Possible the side stand switch wires are damaged or plunger stuck. Trace from switch to where it connects .

My other silly suggestion is did you pull in the clutch while trying to start? Sometimes the wires come loose from the clutch switch and can cause a intermittent problem.

If you have a multimeter , see what the voltage drops to. If it reaches below 10 volts get a new battery.

Have you tried jumper cables from your car batt. no need to start car there is plenty of power with engine off. Sometimes there will be catastrophic battery failure for no reason. The batt will read 12 v but have no amps and drop to 3v trying to start.

Also simple as it seems. Check your fuses.
Main ground is behind the engine down about 1/2 way. Shine a light down there you should spot it.

George is right. All you did was bypass the coil on the starter relay which is controlled by the three things George mentioned.  The most probable cause is in the interlock switches which you should check first.  Dave

mmmmmm.......when you say "it started", do you mean the starter motor turned over? (or "started right away.)  It also turned the crankshaft strongly? and the 1200cc of of motor fired up and continued to run (sometimes termed "started") like the purr of a lion....depending on your brand of muffler.      :biggrin:

Ok , so it turned over bypassing the relay . Now you have to find out if the relay itself is bad by powering it up before you determine it has failed.

As mentioned by others there are interlock switches in the path of power . Also the push button starter switch itself should be disassembled cleaned and tested . Check wiring connections by taking them apart and cleaning then add dielectric grease to them. It is most likely near the last area you were working on the Fj which would be the side stand switch or neutral safety sw.
