Hi, newbie here, in my 60s, have had an 85 fj1100 since about 94, still in shed sadly not ridden for about 5 years and presently not starting, needs some rebuild in clutch and brake cylinders.
Did a lot of work on my bike full strip and ground up rebuild, back on road when the r1s came out and I was competitive with them, much to their surprise, and ran rings around  Bruce Woodly head off, and cams, way too much "fun", could see myself killing myself even though I was a riding instructor, tweak of the throttle at 200 and saw the needle pass ) real quick, as I said too much fun, mind was saying "just one little rock" that's all it would take, and I had already hit the tarmac at 140 once so not to be repeated.
Not sure whether to sell bike or fix up. Won shows when I did up, best Yamaha, best Mod, etc, repainted red and yellow pearl,
I do have the big head and lots of motor bits and new rebuilt cams for sale,

Hi Mitch,

Fix it up and ride it is the overwhelming advice you are going to get here because the forum is made up of riders. That is, if you want to ride again.
I am also in my early 60's; as are a surprising number of members here, and still ride in a manner I thought I would have given up years ago.

I sometimes think about the "one little rock" thing, and other scenarios, but they disappear the instant those first set of bends come into view.

If you decide to re commission it, there is help here in abundance (if you need it)

I live in Melbourne and would be very interested in you engine bits, perhaps you could PM with a bit more detail on what it is you have for sale.

Hi Mitch,

I agree with Vance.. lots of memories you have there so get her back on the road if you have the motivation.

If you don't have the time, I would be interested in giving the whole package a caring home if you're interested in selling. As I mentioned in my introduction, I have two spares FJ1100s so I would love to buy one in good condition so I can do a full restoration bit by bit. I don't mind if it isn't running.

I missed out on buying and FJ1100 in Melbourne yesterday.

Do you get back to Tassie much?

Cheers

Hello Layback,
Vance has particular memories as he is my son, he has a n FJ1200 now, But I took him on a trip when he was 16, around Tassie and we had a wow of a time, except he fell asleep on the back in the middle of Welborough pass, and I wasn't taking it easy either, but lifted it a bit more to keep him awake.
Thanks to all for the comments.
I have quite a lot of bits as I bought The "Rockets " Mick Cruise's engine from his gp midget sprintcar and put all the good stuff in my bike, so basically have a near complete engine, just his lower case has a big hole in it.
To replace the head today would be worth more than the normal bike.
And I have a near perfect right hand side front fairing, still attached to the other side that is a bit the worse for wear, most of the engine bits are still in Tassie,
Where are you from?
I get back to Tassie a couple of times a year.
I have others interested in some bits but I did have it up for sale for $5500 with everything.
regards
Bob

Hey Mitch,

It is a small world.. Would not have picked up that Vance2loud is your son.. No wonder he referes to the memories at least when he was awake.

I'm in Southern Tassie (Hobart) and really keen to buy a reasonable FJ1100. I already have two parts bikes but they seem to both be needing the same things. I was hoping to buy a complete bike so I can get that old feeling from riding another FJ sooner, then gradually build up one of my parts bikes.

I wasn't thinking of spending big bucks but maybe it is worth a chat about what is included in the price. I sent you a PM with my phone number. Your bike sounds like it has an interesting history.

Cheers
