Hi my name is Jeremie and am an ecstatic new owner of a 87 FJ 1200. One of my first jobs I had was at a small Yamaha dealer in Orangeburg S.C. the owner had a FJ 1200 red, white and black, it was love at first sight. Now decades later got one of my own. Im an auto technician by trade esp. Honda so feel free to pick my brain. I tinker allot firearms,RC,boats,ect. of course the FJ has taken top slot at the moment. Anyway glad to find a site specific to my bike thanks.

Welcome to the group! Sounds like you will fit right in. As a profile you described a lot of us.

Feel free to ask questions. Check out the rally's, there are a lot of pictures in the Gallery section. The File's section also has a lot of good information. We have members that have owned and maintained there FJ's since new and they are a great resource. The bikes were sold word wide and there members here pretty much 24/7.

Welcome Jeremie

The FJ is a relatively easy motorcycle to own and maintain. Like anything that is 25+ years old, there will be preventive maintenance required. When in doubt, ask the members here. There are differences between each generation of FJ's.

As others have already mentioned, attend a FJ Rally and meet fellow members from the nut house. There is one close to you, coming in May. The location is in Boone, NC. Look in the Rally thread for details.

Also, pin yourself on the locator map. A good resource to locate other owners close to you or a final destination that you can meet and ride with.

Interesting color on the FJ , could you post a pic of it . Most 87's are red and white like an 86 with the color positions swapped.

Samo-Samo for me and the FJ, I was working at Yamaha of San Antonio when they came out and it was love at first sight and sheer lust at first ride. Wonderful, wonderful motorcycle. I finally got one last year. Now I have two and am giving one the Iron Butt treatment (long hauler).

I do have a Hondaesq question for you.

Do the Honda car motors spin "backwards" i.e. does the crank rotate counter-clockwise? and if so does it spin the alternator backwards too?

Shes currently getting carbs worked so pics are a no go. Interesting is right shes identical to yours gonna look and see if there anything to indicate a color change. If it was I,ll stick with it regardless.

Sorry didn't catch that the v6 and pretty sure the four bangers with the timing chains were clockwise. Wow never been asked that before. Wacha trying to make? We have a wicked awd mud bbuggy that runs an accord 2.3 with auto trans . I'll try and post some pics of it.

Welcome Jeremie, I've been thinking about a engine swap for my Miata.
I've found that a "all motor" application is far more durable on track days than running forced induction.

The K24 VTEC Honda engine looks tasty to me. http://www.kmiata.com/home.html

220-240rwhp normally aspirated with a 9k redline and all day reliability....yea, that will keep up with the track turbo guys just fine.

What's your thoughts on the K24? Should I consider using the K20 head?

Sorry again I gave up tweaking imports after X took my 91 integra, but depends on what type of race ur running. Lots of corners short straits I'd go all motor or supercharged if its drag then turbo or nitrous will work. As far as the head swap I don't have much experience with k series and modding them.
