Hmmm....

When a bike sits for a while, sticky varnishes develop, and rubber things get hard. Rings don't want to seal immediately upon waking. (still sleepy, you see...)

Advice:

Ride `dat bee-Yatch!

Things will loosen up, and the rings will (possibly) seal again.

...but if the engine's already apart...

And this is coming from someone who's nursing a smoking bike. But, I assure you, it wasn't from SITTING!

way to go steve , we were all thinking  it but since he already did the work the point is moot.

Now there is no doubt because it is all fresh and ready to go.  :yahoo:

Welcome - as well -- you are very close to where my daughter goes to school - at Florida Gulf Coast.... on the motor its good to fix -- FJ's love the attention -- I can attest to what was said though.  I bought an 86 for the motor and it was sitting for a few years and on its first start up smoked like a bad two stroke ( of course I had a bunch of WD and other lubes to burn off ) and after a little she is still working out with no real smoke on start up any more.  But you will be pleased with the fresh stuff no doubt.  Watch out for the kick in 2nd its addicting..
