I have a standard rear shock that was rebuilt by a PO many years ago. It has a valve at the top. I want to get the oil and gas re done and was wondering if it was an emulsion type shock, do both go in where the valve is or does it have to be cut open to refill with oil. I cant see any signs of it having been cut and welded previously
Cheers

The OEM shock was not designed to be rebuilt. We need more information on the shock you have. Perhaps a picture of it might help. If it is an OEM then I would be interested in the work done to improve it...
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

It i svery possible that the shock is rebiuildable.

I have not had an FJ shock apart in a long while and can not remember how the seal head comes apart, but most shocks are similar in construction.

If the valve has been installed I would suspect that at some point you shock has been reworked and it should not be too difficult to do again. Pictures would definately help, an dI may be able to talk you through it.

I would not change the oil via the schrader valve. It will be vry difficult to bleed prior to nitrogen charging and you will get very little of the dirt out negating any advantage in a short time.

There was talk about someone in Aus or NZ who rebuilt the shocks. You may try searching for the discussion. I believe Ned started the discussion, but it has been a while. No one here in the states that I am aware of rebuilds them or lists parts but most shocks use commonly available seals and bushings.

my pleasure Stua.  Ive never had Ekke do any suspension work for me but i have a feeling he'd do a good job if it can be done..
