Bummer, is it specifically legislated against?

If so, why do you think it is?

Lane splitting is legal in California. We are allowed to have two vechiles in the same lane at the same time.  Which seems to really piss off the cage rollers a bit. :blum1:

When I said 'ILLEGAL here', I meant here, as Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.

I have explained to this to Klavdy before, but he refuses to believe me.         :dash1:

So, here it is:

Indiana Code # 9-21-10-6
Traffic lanes; restrictions on use
Sec. 6. A motorcycle is entitled to the full use of a traffic lane and a vehicle may not be driven or operated in a manner that deprives another vehicle of the full use of a traffic lane. Motorcycles may, with the consent of both persons who operate the motorcycles, be operated with not more than two (2) abreast in a single traffic lane.
As added by P.L.2-1991, SEC.9.

The IC is specific, and the LEOs here will write you for it in a traffic situation.

In line at an event of some sort, they will ignore it.

O.K,it is specifically legislated against in Indiana as compared to somewhere like Kentucky where there is no reference made in Legislature,Administrative Code or Statutes regarding lane splitting, filtering or lane sharing.

Now we're getting somewhere.

Why do you think it is legislated against?

There are many laws, even in a 'free' country, that are rammed down our throats, whether they make good sense or not... our Congress is busy preparing some more right now.

This is just one of them.

I choose to obey it most of the time, mostly because of the unpredictability of the cagers here, and the fact that if I get hit while doing it, the liability is mine.

Lane splitting is not legal in Oregon.  The few times that I have done it the cagers usually try and run me off the road or change their lane position as to block me so I can't pass.  Same goes for others I have seen try and split lanes.

Jeez, no wonder I was so popular.
I do it all the time, Colorado too.
Hell, everywhere I've ridden in the U.S, I've lane split.
East Coast, West Coast, all over.

Hmmm,Fluffy & I were somewhere, he's gunned it past this V8 Tundra? (Jap full size pickup) and the dude driving near lost his mind.
He took off after Fluffy, (I was behind the PU) and he was going apeshit, beating the steering wheel, literally insane with rage.

S, I passed him too and off we fucked.

I think he would have tried to run us both over if he could.

So, any way, why do you reckon it is not legal in all U.S States?

I do it all the time. I think it may not be legal here, but I haven't been busted yet. Seems like the cops should have something better to do.

People sure do get pissed, regardless.  Like they're being cheated if a rocketship motorcycle passes them in line at the stoplight.

Pretty sure that KY(my home) is the same as Indiana in the wording of lane usage. I know I have been cited for "improper lane usage" for straightnin' them curves just like the duke boys...

In answer to your question I would guess it boils down to the assigning of blame as much as anything. Sadly in many parts of our country folks just don't want to take the blame for what they done. I reckon it has sumpthin to do with all the lawyerly types.

See the lawyers convinced the politicians (probably with "donations") that if 2 vehicles can not occupy the same space at the same time, They better make it illegal to do so or somebody could get hurt. Protect the children and all that stuff...Iffin a bike and a car was to try and occupy the same space somebody might get hurt. Iffen they got hurt and can show that they were not breakin the law by occupyan the same space, well then who would be at fault. They might even be able to blame the politicians for not keepin them safe. It would be pandimonium I tell ya. Iffin they make it illegal then they can just blame the motorcicle cause only an eediot would try to pass a motor bike with a car.

If he has any combination of wolves, a native Americans, American Flags, POW/MIA flags, Eagles or Jesus engraved on his windscreen he has earned that right.

My dog Silas is chasing the hamster in the ball who is running like hell.  Nothing like a self-throwing ball.

A real bike has to have at least five flags to be real. And a fat chick in a bikini.
