Hi all,

I picked up my first FJ1200 - a 1992 model yesterday. I have hankered after one of these bikes for many many years but other stuff got in the way.

So I picked it up just outside Kempsie on the North Coast and my first ride was back down to Sydney - some 400+kms, and I'm not disappointed.

A few minor issue to sort out. It has a Racetech front end and new Pirellis. The torque is unbelievable, even for this high mileage example (117,000km)

I'm looking forward to reading all the do's and don't on this forum.

:hi: G`day Jools. the FJ is built for the North Coast rides. Not much further to our National FJ Rally in Grafton next March. (that`s number 1 Do.)
"Don`t" worry about those kilometres....it`s only just breaking in!  :drinks:
(In fact your purchase sounds a lot like my old bike that went to Shannons Auctions in Canberra last March....how are the plastics?)
`93 with downside up forks.
`78 XS11/1200 with a bit on the side.
Special edition Rocket Ship ZX14R Kwacka

Welcome Jools ! Lots of members in OZ ! Yes, the FJ has plenty of roll on power in just about any gear. Great all around bike.

Yes, I will put that event in the calendar - provided it doesn't clash with the Barry Sheene Festival of Speed................. :good2:

The Plastics are good apart from the belly pan but I am gonna practice my plastic welding on this as I  have been following a topic on how to do it properly on the Air Cooled RD Forum.
Not sure this is the same bike - the owner had it for 4 years and used to live in Sydney before moving up North.

I fixed a few little niggles up today - the LH footrest top mount thread had gone so I stuck a helicoil in. I noticed the LH bar was also bent so I stripped that off and pressed it straight again. Speedo needle was wayward after 110kmh so I pulled out the cable inner - no damage so cleaned and light oiled before putting it back together.

The kill switch doesn't do anything so I'll check the switch out. looking at the wiring diagram it may have been bypassed.

What is the go with lights permanently on ? is that the law here ? Not a fan of that - I like to be in control of my destiny LOL !

Welcome Jools, there's a wealth of information here, if you have a problem with anything just ask and someone will help you out. Not sure about NSW, but it's no longer compulsory in Queensland to have your headlight on at all times, and if that's the case there, you might be able to rig a switch up so you can turn it off.

It was at one time but no longer. I've never worried about it, can't hurt. I can't see any downside to being seen.

Thanks guys.

I'm sure I'll have plenty of localised questions - the first being can you still get Staintune headers ?

Thanks General

I saw a new Delkevic down pipe and collector, which they tell me will fit the staintune silencers so I thought I would give it a try & made my first major purchase.

Will start a thread when they arrive....................
