Oil leak into pick up coil area

I have a minor oil leak from pick up coil. Anyone familiar with a fix for this? Crankshaft seal?

Yep, crank seal. Remove rotor,carefully pry out old seal and install new.

I have them in stock.

Thanks Randy! I was not sure if it replaced that easly.

It can be difficult to remove the original as it has the external lip/ring around the outside of the seal holding it in the case.

You have to be careful not to damage the crank or case sealing surfaces.

Ok what's he trick in removing the bolt that secures the pick up coil rotor. My manual just says to remove it. Do I secure plate with a large crescent wrench then use  socket to remove the bolt. I did this but is did not budge and I did not want to force anything...yet. Help m before I break something. I searched file to no avail. Sorry I'm sooo needy.

Ps went to the MC show  in Long Beach, Ca. yesterday. Maybe my best fix is buying a new bike. After this re-pair I will have to.  :biggrin:

How did you keep the crankshaft from turning?

Yeah, like Pat said...an air impact wrench will make short work of that.

If you don't happen to have one, you can put the bike in gear, throw a tuba-four into the spokes of the rear wheel and go at it gently.  Should give you what you need to break that loose.  Heck, that whole drive line can handle the torque of the motor, it should be able to handle the 32 ft-lbs of torque to remove that bolt.

I use a pneumatic impact gun to remove the bolt. I have heard of guys putting the transmission in gear and wedge a 2x4 through the wheel to keep it from rotating.

The impact is much easier.

Nike, ride to my house for beer and fixer up day. I can also install that Avon front tire if you are due for swap.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Thanks Mark, Might be too late for that. Using the impact wrench made remove the bolt a laugh. But I'm having real trouble now. The old seal is not cooperating I think  they use Yamabond  :biggrin:. It is just tearing apart as I try to remove it. This a real drag now. I think I was better off living with my oil leak, but I am at point of new return. Any pointers appreciated. rickin frackin rockin #!%$. :mad:

Do I need to remove the external lip/ring? I think see can see it in there.

retraction what I think I see is internal to the seal. Enough frustration for now. A look at the Knocker post and then chill. :flag_of_truce:

What time can I show up tomorrow and help you out? The earlier the better, I owe the wife a nice dinner so I need to be home by 4ish... I can also bring over the Avon front tire I promised you...
