I want to remove the left foot peg to clean up and repaint but how does it come off? It has one bolt holding it and looks like the rear set pivot may double as a bolt. Is this the case? I didn't want to put too much force on it without knowing for sure. If it does unscrew it feels preety tight.

The left foot peg has 1 regular bolt and 1 gear shift bolt.

Relatively easy to remove both. To remove the gear shift bolt, Remove the 'C' clip/Snapring and the gear lever will slide off. Now you can remove the bolt the same way the other is removed.

You are correct about about being careful of too much force. The gear shift bolt does not like ANY side load force, it will snap off.

The bolt sill look a lot like this.

Since Yamaha has discontinued the stock bolt, I have manufactured the RPM S/S shifter bolt to work on all years of the FJ. The early models have/had a small plastic cover over the internal allen hex whereas the the late model version have the external hex like the one I manufacture.

OK, got it. The little button that covers the hex was missing and over the years had filled with crud and rust. I had to wire brush the end of the pin to reveal the hex. Picked out what was left of the button that was still in the hex hole. It then came out easy.
I was too slow to have a look at my 1200 to see what was going on. Doh! :dash2:
