Front fork question(s)!!!

My FJ is an '85 with a stock front end. My brother has a complete front end from a Suzuki RF900, (forks, triple tree's, Nissen calipers, 17" wheel, etc, etc).

However, the forks are approx' 3" shorter than the FJ's...is this the case with a GSXR front end graft?? Has anyone done this swap out before??

Thoughts and experiences would be appreciated :scratch_one-s_head:

I have used 2008 gsxr1000 front ends on both my 86 and my 89. I used this front because I was told that they were over sprung (too stiff) from the factory. And a lot of the racers were putting softer springs in. They were perfect for the Fj with me on it(285lbs).
I don't know how the RF900 front compares to the gsxr specs wise. But the gsxr forks needed extensions also.

Short version of gsxr conversion:  Press the stems out of both Fj and gsxr triples. U will be using the gsxr triples with the Fj stem.
Weld around the base of the Fj stem to build it up. Then machine it to fit, and press it into the gsxr bottom triple. Make a collar to fit the Fj stem to the gsxr top triple.  Have extensions made. Cut off the bars from the clippons so you have just the round clamp. Make risers out of 1 1/2" x1" aluminum bar stock (I made mine the same as the fjs). And make the bars out of 7/8" round aluminum. Drill and tap the ends of the bars for the Fj bar ends. Then weld them up. U have aluminum Fj clippons for your gsxr front. (I made the extensions longer so they stick up past the tipple and clippons a little more than an inch, I can slide the clippons up for touring and slide them back down for the twisties) get custom brake and clutch lines from spiegler. Use GPS speedo or I have one that reads off a magnet on the front wheel. And you will have to make steering stops for the frame. It cuts almost 17lbs off the front of the Fj. (Even my digital dash is2.8lbs lighter than the stock guages)

Oh yah my extensions are a little over engineered. They have 3 pinch bolts that clamp them down to the forks. All the ones you can buy just use a set screw to hold the fork inside the extensions. My first set was way heavy duty. Were tapered down for added strength. I had new ones made that were flat across the transition. If anyone wants my mega heavy duty set. They can have them for $140 + shipping. (That's what it cost me to have them made).

I'm trying to get my machinist to make new top caps for the forks with the extensions built into them. They make them for the race bikes. But only 20mm longer. But getting him to get around to doing it is another story. Its a side/government job.
I'm thinking of buying another fork and see if I could have an extension welded to the top cap. But the cheapest I've seen for a single 2007-8gsxr fork is $100. And that's too much to just throw away. If it doesn't work. If anyone can get just the cap from a trashed 2007-8 gsxr1000 fork for cheep. Let me know. I've tried to find just the cap or just a trashed fork. And they don't mess with them. The just scrap the hole thing.
