Well today in the beautiful sunlight of southern Ontario  I noticed some weepage on the head of my FJ it appears folks that the old girl has decided to blow the head gasket after 30 years and 40 thousand clicks.
On closer inspection oil is covering the right muffler and engine plate where the muffler exits the collector box then noticed the clutch cover punched in by the brake pedal which must have been caused by a recent tip over. Here I thought I had gotten away with just the right front indicator stem anyway the JB Weld is curing right now I don't know what I'm going to do about the head gasket?

Are you sure it's the head gasket and not the valve cover gasket and/or bolt grommets?

I can't think of the last time when I have heard of a head gasket failing on our FJ's.

First thing I looked at as I had recently replaced valve cover gasket and grommets but alas these are not the culprits.

Pictures...

If there is oil leaking from the right side of the head, the head gasket is not the culprit, it is the dowel seals that seal the head supply oil galley.

OK Interesting... How we fix dis, off with head and replace gasket anyway?

Yes, the head must come off and the gasket will need to be replaced. So, you know the FJ1100/1200 used a black rubber dowel seal that was a failure point. The XJR1300 uses a green Viton rubber seal which are almost indestructible.

That is the only dowel seals I will sell, the upgraded Viton seal.
