Guys, when we were visiting earlier this year, my wife saw several "Australian Opal frog" carvings.

She found one she really liked, but she did not buy it as she wanted to think about it overnight. Well, when we went back the next day the store was closed so she could not get it and we moved on to the next destination that same day.

I am in need of finding one or more of these frogs for her. They look like this, but the one she was looking at was probably almost twice as big as the ones normally found on eBay

So, I wonder if any of you guys or possibly your wives/girlfriends can look out for some of these frogs for me. The critical element is the blue opal of the frog. The one she really liked had the blue running the length of the back compared to this small one with the blue across the back leg.

I appreciate any help with this, this frog is one regret she has from the trip.

If you find something, if you take some pictures for me and email them and I can have her look at them.

Thanks, Randy - RPM

If you lick them, do you hallucinate?  Just wondering. :)

Good luck finding what you need Randy.

How about these, Randy:

I went to ebay and searched "Australian Opal frogs" and got a few hits.

Edit: I didn't read your post close enough and just saw you did look on ebay.

Randy,

I'll keep a lookout in the shops here, but in the interim check these items from ebay.com.au

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Beautiful-Australia-Opal-carved-Frog-13-7cts-/201155537619?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ed5cdead3

Also check the "other items from this seller".

Are you aware that much of the Australian opal, sapphires, and diamonds are cut, carved, and polished in Singapore, Thailand, and China?

Cheers,
Arnie

Randy. Where did she see them I could ride to the shop. Or I maybe in lighting ridge (a opal town) end of November no time between now and November for a weekend run to LR.

Will watch out for them.

Cheers.

Rover, we were in Cairns area, Kuranda after riding the skyrail up and the train back. We rented a car and drove back up but the shop was closed for the day.

Arnie, that second one is very interesting, I will take a good look on a computer tomorrow as it is just too difficult to see via the cell phone.

The first one is list on the U.S. eBay and looks smaller than a dime.

The one she looked at was about half the size of my palm.

Hey Randy, check out this link as Coober Pedy is the Opal capital of Australia and there are plenty of Australian suppliers links on this page you could contact.

errr mate....that`s not a frog. They`re toads. We got a lot with golf club marks running the length of their backs. I`ll check out a place near me that has coloured golf clubs, but here`s a sample...

You can get`m here me thinks... http://www.pinterest.com/pin/303641199848093477/ (they`re 2inch long in stone but a lot bigger in real life). I did some research on them with what you call a potato gun. Kinda like a cat that always lands on all fours when ya drop them...these things hit car windows with all four legs spread! (every time...no exceptions!)
....just thought I`d give ya a touch of Aussie culture ta wrap with ya fancy frog.

Zwartie

Back in the fall of '99 (or spring down under) I went to Port Douglas for 3 weeks for work. Yup, I've been to some of the most glamorous wastewater plants in the world! Let me tell you about the shit plants in Hawaii as well. Anyway, I missed my wife's 30th birthday so as an act of penitence I bought her a black opal and we had it set in a ring when I got home. I knew nothing about opals beforehand and only learned then that 90% of the world's opals come from Australia. Turns out the opal is her birth stone as well so it was a big win - I traveled half way across the planet just to get her birthstone...yeah, that's the ticket!

Hope you're successful in your quest Randy!
