Hello,

Can anyone help me??  I am replacing the clutch push rod oil seal gasket and i doesn't seem to fit properly.  Is there a trick to getting it to seat correctly?  I put it on and it still is leaking, so I know that I have done something wrong.

Thanks,

Tim

Just wondering, is it leaking around the push rod or around the seal where it meets the engine case?

Thanks for the quick response.  I'm assuming that it is coming from around the gasket.  It all started when I replaced the Slave gaskets and there was an Oil Seal in the kit.  I put everything back together and started the bike and noticed oil leaking from the area.

The reason I ask for you to differentiate the origin of the leak is so as to discount burs on the rod that may have been introduced during it's removal to replace the seal.  If not around the rod, then I would guess that it's a variation in tolerance, off the seal manufacturer's assembly line.  Did you ensure it was pushed all the way home?

Actually I've recently done the same thing, and also have a leak in that general area, but mine I attributed to the flat o-rings that I saw when I changed the oil filter.  I also saw some oil leaking around the o-ring for the bolt part of the filter housing.

Now that I think about it, the seal did seem to go in pretty easy.  I'm assuming you got your kit from the same place I did.  Did you get the kit from RPM?

In my case the oil is dripping on the OEM exhaust system 4 into two collector, or so I call it, and burning, creating smoke!

P.S. I also should have mentioned that an oil seal has to be pressed in squarely, there should be no see-sawing movements during it's insertion.  One should carefully place it in the opening, ensuring it is indeed square and slightly started, then pressed in with some sort of tool like possibly a socket that presses on the entire face of the seal, especially on the outer diameter, where the sealing flange mates with the engine housing.

I'm sorry, I shouldn't have assumed that you already knew that.  And if you did, I'm not trying to comment on your knowledge of bikes, I just can't know where you are along your path in understanding mechanics, the worse thing anyone can do, when trying to help someone, is to assume they know something without making sure they do.

Have a good one.

And good luck!
