How much effort is required to create a moblie optimized version of this (or any other, for that matter) site?

I notice that some do, some don't, but have no idea of what is involved, effort/cost wise.

Surely I'm not the only one wondering about this...

This site works beautifully with my iPhone. What's the problem with your mobil device? not everything shows? Buttons not rendered?

It's actually a standard feature of SMF.

Thanks, Paul!  Unfortunately, that's just about as bad as the looking at the regular site, at least on this particular phone.

Yeah, I like the iPhone, but hate AT&T.

I'm using an LG enV Touch on Verizon.  Not an iPhone to be sure, but I'm not paying over $700 for data, either.

When looking at this site, much of the text (especially the row with the 'unread' button) is so small as to be almost unreadable.  If I enlarge it, the avatars and smilies, which start off oversize, dominate the screen, and are difficult at best to scroll around.

Try these:

Thanks, Paul!

Hmmm... the 'wap2' link seems to work okay... now if there were an 'unread' posts link on the page, we'd really have something.     :good:

Yeah, I prefer the imode link, but it sounds like some phones aren't as good at rendering the pages.

It may just be that those who won't pop for a full smartphone have to tolerate less than optimal browsing.

But I will not pay $720 just for this...      :flag_of_truce:

You won't get any argument out of me.  The only reason I have a BlackBerry is because I travel so much, and being able to respond nearly instantly to customer emails even while traveling is huge.  I upgraded to a Bold last February so that I could get 3G and not be paying $10 per night at the hotels for internet service.  However, AT&T's 3G is a total joke.  As soon as my contract in Feb '11 is up I'm switching to Verizon.

If I had a job that didn't require so much travel, I'd just have a cheap flip phone, Motorola or whatever, and it would probably be through MetroPCS.

If it's just a cheap phone with good coverage, www.straighttalk.com looks pretty hard to beat.

When my current Verizon contract is up, I'll probably do something like that.

The end days of cell phone contracts are coming up very soon.

Has there ever been a suggestion to setup TapaTalk?   I use in on a few other forums and it looks fairly nice.   Not sure what is needed to make it happen to be honest.  I am thinking if it is only useful for a handful of folks it wouldn't be worthy of the effort.

I use Tapatalk with several forums. For the forum owner, Tapatalk is free and installation is a breeze. Just install the mod on the board and then register with Tapatalk (free account registration is required) and you're good to go. Now browsing the forum for users of mobile phones is much easier.
