Hello all! I'm entering my second week of owning my FJ which I purchased as a project. I acquired the bike from a guy that I work for periodically rehabbing his rental units. I had no idea he was into FJ's until one day I worked at his home and I entered his garage to see two mint FJ's sitting in it. My jaw dropped when I saw them,as I've always had a deep love for the bike, but I've never happened upon one in all my years. Honestly I almost cried and voice cracking, I expressed my love of the awesomeness which is the FJ 1200. It took all of two seconds for him to walk me over to an object sitting under a padded moving blanket. Blanket removed, A third FJ was revealed and a $300 price tag placed on it. I shouted sold! The bike has 7K original miles on but has been picked at for parts over the years. The engine is intact and has never been molested. I've spent the two last weeks on ebay finding all that's missing( which was quite a bit). Just finished up the major problem which was the carbs ( all jets missing) only to find a bad fuel pump. While waiting on that I'm repairing the upper fairing which has the entire upper left portion missing. Just put new tires and battery along with brakes. I found this site looking for info on the reserve switch and how it functions. Very cool site, glad I found it, can't wait to ride my bike.

Welcome!  What a great find.  What year is your FJ ? I can tell it must be between 1988 and 93 but parts wise there are some differences.  Check out the files for a lot of good information.  Also where are you located ?  There might be some members in your area that can help also.  :good2:

Ok my fuel pump showed up in the mail today so I got it installed. The Bike fired up and to my surprise ran rather well right off the bat. Out side of the idle needing set I had no complaints, I adjusted that then warmed it up and changed the oil and filter. I temporarily mounted up the fairing and windshield then put the front signals and mirrors on and took it down the road a few miles. I'm all smiles right now, what a smooth machine.  Here's a few things I had to throw at it to get it rolling. New tires and valve stems, All pins and pads on the calipers, Front fender, Mirrors, New chain, Fuel pump, battery box, New battery and a used fairing which I cut up to fix mine so I could keep the stock graphics look which I prefer.

Freak,
You're doing a good job.

My most recent FJ acquisition is that color (colour) scheme, which I'm very fond of...

Looks like you found a hidden gem.

Thanks for the kind words. When I first saw the bike the tank had two good dents in it which kinda bummed me out, but wasn't a deal breaker by all means. Then the guy pulled out a box, and wrapped in another moving blanket was this matching tank with no dings and only a few small paint chips but no rust inside. I was extremely pleased to see that to say the least! I've been looking and this color scheme is hard to find parts wise. I did see a few side covers on ebay from up in Canada and they looked pretty nice. I don't have the inner panels for the fairing but I can't justify $150 each on ebay so I'll probably make something to cover those spots. I'm in the market for some bags and I'm probably going to make a custom rack so I can haul my Dobro to some Bluegrass jams. In all, I'm glad I did all the work myself so I know what I have and what I'm heading out on. I was going to send the carbs to the FJ guys but decided to do them my self and I'm glad I did. You do have to have a sense of humor to mess with 4 carbs which I've never done before. Going to make a set of sync gauges today and yank the tank again, as good as it runs I'm not sure I can adjust it any closer but I have to know as it's standard procedure.

Ya I know what you mean. I Finally got it on the road and put about 50 miles on it and the clutch started slipping :unknown: Pulled the clutch and it all looked new inside but I put the mic on a few of the fiber discs and they are all at minum thickness. Great! Ordered clutch, new spring and a gasket so we'll see how that goes when I get it all.

If you are gonna crack it open to swap out the fibers, consider the RPM roller shift kit. I had shifting issues, now it shifts like warm butter... A good mod for my FJ.

I'll keep that kit in mind maybe for this winter as a project. I was looking at the clutch lever yesterday and noticed a fluid drip, I used a little pic tool and pulled the dust boot back and fluid came rolling out. I had to order a rebuild kit for that and just went ahead and got the kit for the slave as well. Bike is quickly cutting into my allotted budget and I'd like to finish out the year with handle grips in my hands instead of wrenches. Every time i go out to the shop and look at the F J,    I call it the Found Job 1200  It's 24 years old so I give it plenty of slack .
