I guess I should have started this thread sooner, but that's the story of my life.

So far I've gotten the following replacement parts:

Fuel Petcock, OEM; SS hydraulic lines, Galfer, all around, OEM clones; both sprockets, JT, original ratio, 17/42; D.I.D 530 ZVM-X Natural Unplated Steel X-ring Chain, 110 Links; Paper fuel filter, OEM; Yuasa Lead/Acid battery, OEM, (though it's some new technology with additional plates); Both mirrors, cheap Emgo's, OEM style, but things look bigger, so flat glass instead of OEM (convexed), which unfortunately shall reduce my field of view, I just couldn't see $200.00 worth of mirrors;Carbtune II manometer; RPM SS cap screw/o-ring kit; RPM clutch slave rebuild kit.

Then some rinky-dink stuff, i.e.: Spray paint, high temp engine Gloss Black with ceramic; dot 4 brake fluid; Lucas oil ethanol treatment; Castrol 4T 20w50; sulfuric acid, for dry battery; brake cleaner; butterfly screws; loctite, purple; JIS phillips screwdriver set; Plastic Epoxy, for swing arm chain guard repair; Pliobond - 20% nitrile solids (nitrile rubber cement) to repair worn spots on the slide diaphragms, also have Plastidip but it's gasoline soluble, Pliobond is not; Rusteco (for removing the rust from the tank).

Got much more to go, hoping I can test drive before the riding season ends this year.  I was originally hoping to do so by the first of Sept., my wife and I have an event to attend. Looking to get new rubber before then, Metzeler Lasertec's.  I used to run their softer compounds, but they don't make them any longer for 16" wheels; bummer!

I also need to do some ABS plastic welding, and fairing painting, especially the chin fairing, and of course some miscellaneous chassis parts.  I'm actually going to try an manufacture rear foot peg rubbers from old auto/truck tires, we'll see.

Thanks for all the hints, recommendations, tips, and advice, I've managed to glean from perusing all your posts, I couldn't have taken this on as easily, and confidently without your support.

Thanks Charley!  So you're not only a Rush fan but a Montrose fan too eh?  Or was that just Sammy?  Been too long, memory fading fast. I caught those two sneaky bits you injected pretty quick, even if you hadn't used parentheses or quotes, I would have sniffed those two out.

Thanks for the support, my friend.  It's quite daunting actually, I've been a bit sporadic ordering parts for any particular system, so I'm starting and stopping work on a system to take care of another as they come in.  I'm trying to keep from having the entire bike in pieces on the floor, so as to keep track of all the parts, I don't have a really good system in place, so I don't know what I need until I get to it.  Like those caliper pistons, I was really thinking they'd be OK, I should have known better.

I put some more mystery oil in each cylinder again, and cranked her over by hand, the last time was about 5-6 years ago, she cycled smooth and easy, so my faith and enthusiasm in my eventual success was heightened, such that I could almost feel the g's in a knee dragging sweeper.   :dance2:

The thing I hate most is that many parts are discontinued, I almost waited too long.  :dash2:

I know it's all going to be worth it in the end though, no matter what it takes, I'm definitely committed.

Later!

Yeah funny guy, I wish I was as fast as you.  For me it's more like the rest of the month. Money, definitely an object in my case, yet I trudge along, if even at a snails pace.

But I'm psyched!

Later my fellow FJ'er!

I finally received the Galfer rear SS line today.  Now I need to mount them all, still waiting on various parts, to complete systems.  Slow but sure, I tend to be, making sure it's 100%.  :scratch_one-s_head:

When I started my FJ adventure I bought a "dismantled" 84 that I thought I was going to put together and ride. I started with the engine last November In the spare bedroom. All was going well till I discovered Two broken teeth on the cam gear on the crank , so I had to move in a different direction. I also needed fork legs. My search led me to this forum and a fellow bike mechanic with an 84FJ with a "Mechanics lien" that I bought cheap, this and the conglam of parts from my first dismantled FJ I bought last year is the bike I'm riding and loving now. So I learned and studied all those parts on the first one and had that advantage of knowing what all the parts were and thanks to the excellent "GenuineYamaha Service Manual" that came with the parts bike, I was able to identify every part, nut and bolt.ect,ect... Blah, blah blah. anyway my point was to stress how helpfull a well written model specific manual is, and this Yamaha one I have is the best I've ever come across. And yes, Montrose... Ronnie died last year...dam so many great ones are gone...and missed. That first Montrose album kicked ass what a great debut. And the Edgar Winter Group....shit. Yet another great one gone...Note to self."gettin old, better enjoy it all when you're still able.Your not too old to play kick ass guitar and to enjoy the freedom that motorcycling gives you!"                                                                                                                          Did you catch the Red Green quote also? Living in Wisconsin, I am practically Canadian!!!   :drinks:                                                                                         Charley.
