I'm interested in finding out how long you've owned your FJ. I'm talkin long term original owners. Is there anyone out there who bought a brand new 84, 85, 86 ect. who still has it and rides it regularly ? That would make you an FJ elder and full of FJ knowledge and experience, and high ranking in my book! Also when was this forum started, and by whom. I believe that there are a few members on here that have early FJ's purchased new. Pat and Jack come immediately to mind.

Forum started in February 2009 (IIRC) by Marsh White after a moderation / member disagreement on the yahoo group. I was one of the participants of the S##t storm, hence my user name.

Previously Marsh ran the FJRally site linked at the top of the page.

I bought my FJ new, in Aug 94. Also picked out my VIN# from a list of bikes that the dealer had in stock.

I bought my FJ in August of '89. Hopefully she'll come back soon from an extended stay at the RPM spa & summer camp.

Pat,

I love the mistress story. I told it to my wife to try and shed some heat off of me. she is still pissed off that I went to the bike shop for a masterlink and came home with a 14 ninja 1000. I should of kept the Ninja at a friends house. :dash2:

Back in May, a friend asked if my FJ was the mistress? I told her "I had the FJ before I met my wife so you decide who is the mistress". She proceeded to tell my wife who just laughed. Lately I have been talking about a new FZ9, this is not a laughing matter.

Let me think..... My twins are now 17.5 years old.... so I have owned my 86' for 17.2 years. I bought it to commute twice a month from SoCal to San Jose to visit my kids and save on fuel. The first year was an El Nino year, it pissed rain in at least one direction, sometimes both....
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

G'Day. I brought my '92 model new in 1992. I spent the first part of day 1 puting it together out of the box. My Machanic watched on as I added the loose parts from the crate. That was 122000 K's ago. I have logged each kilometre and every drop of fuel, all accessesories and tyres as well, and I can name each pereson that has ridden it since.
Be Good.

Hey Charlie, in my case, just don't confuse longevity of ownership with knowledge.....
All that I've learned about my FJ came from the much more knowledgable guys on this forum....
....and the Yahoo forum previously...
.....and the Netpath list  before that.

I realize that there is so much I don't know about motorcycles but, what I do know (for certain) is that FJ owners are some of the most selfless, helpful owners I have ever been associated with....bar none.

For example, did I ever tell you the story of a FJ owner who was in the middle of a cross country tour and in the middle of no where his generator went out....he limped in to town on his battery and called the closest Yamaha dealer 85 miles away to get a generator....The dealer told him it would take over a week to get the part to him *if* they could find one....
The guy walked over to the town's library, got on line to the Yahoo FJ forum and posted a call for help...

One of our members (Jon Cain) went out to his garage, removed the generator from his bike and overnight mailed it to our stranded FJ brother......cool huh?
That's just one of several stories I could tell you.

Where will you ever find guys like that?     They're all right here.

FJ are nice bikes, but the people here make the FJ a special bike.
