Rear wheel; binding or normal

I've been fixated on my chain lately. Not a love but I like it very much. The rear wheel doesn't free wheel. I jack up the back and try to spin it and it drags. It doesn't make any ill noises. I adjusted it today after a 130 mile run cause it appeared to be to tight. I had the axle bolt loose and tried to spin and it free wheels good without any lateral tension. It's been so long since I had my other (new) bikes that I can't remember if thats normal.

If it's not normal, what would be the cause? All the spacers are there I believe.

Could be rear brake sticking a little, remove pads and see.

No, It isn't the brake. When I loosen up the axle bolt its very free and spins fairly easy. Whats yours like when the axle is tight?

Are you sure you are using the correct spacers on either side of the rear rim. There is a spacer in between the rear wheel bearings?  There is also a spacer behind the sprocket carrier between the sprocket carrier bearing and the wheel bearing. It sounds like one of these spacers is missing or not the right spacer for the rim. If all the correct spacers are in place and the rear axle is tight the rear rim should spin freely with out any bind.. HTH

Yeah mine spins free. If i give it a medium push it spins all the way around.

Ok thanks guys. I'll have to go through it and make sure everythings there. The rear wheel is stock and it's how I got it but theres a chance that I didn't get all the spacers in when I reassembled the bike. Thank you Joe

Also something to consider is the torque on the axle. It could have been to tight. The torque on the axle nut should be 110 FtLbs

And thats another thing Fred. If I don't tighten the axle up hard, the right side of the axle moves back. The whole puller adjustment assembly moves out an 1/8" from the swingarm on the right side only.

This got me thinking of how the brake is the only thing that could make the pusher on the right side move back.
I went to the owners manual to read about the rear wheel. I was reading about the torque spec's and noticed that the
Tension bar bolt is only 22 ft/lbs. This must be it. I'm tightening the bar bolt way to much and this is jacking the pusher
out of the swing arm so I'm tightening the axle bolt to much in order to stop the pusher from jacking out.

Tell me about it...
When I did my FZR rear wheel mod this spring, I forgott the spacer between th sprocket carrier and rim.... Made all kind of wird noices.. You can hear it here...


Needless to say, I had to take it all of and replace those bearings as they got some unwanted leaverage when I tied to tourqu that axle nut...  :dash2: :dash2:
