What are these ears on the frame for? There to far back to use for bungees.

They make a great place to hook the back end of a bungee net.

Hepco & Becker has incorporated those ears as an attachment point for their pannier rack.

Indeed they are designed for Bungees. The 1200 has a double set.

I use to bungee across the seat and those are to far back to do that. It's a good spot to bungee across a rack but if I had a rack, I wouldn't need the ears. I could just go around the rack. Thanks :hi:

Back in the day, the Yamaha accessory catalog had a tail bag made to sit on the rear cowl.

They were made by Eclipse on the same pattern as their own tail bag, but of heavier-duty materials.

My '89 has two bumpers permanently mounted to the top of the rear cowling that resemble the bumpers on each side of the main fairing, and allow for a soft tailbag to be mounted on top of the rear duck tail, and strapped down to those 'ears' .  I used this setup before going with the hard bags.
