Hi all,

I have been an '92 FJ1200 owner since 3/2000 but my FJ has spent lots of time unused, due to different causes. I got it with 38.000km and now it has about 65.000km, so average is 1.900km/year. But the real thing is that since about a couple years I have done less than 1.000km. And now it is in nonworking condition  :negative:

BUT THIS IS GOING TO CHANGE SOON  :good2: (I hope )

Some months ago, I got a nice set of new carbs, as the main problem on my FJ now is that, being so much time unused, carbs got clogged  :dash2:

I could rebuild them (and will probably do that to keep them as spares) but I wanted a faster and safer route to go back to road.

But then... I have not had yet the time to fit them!

You can see my FJ1200 here:

I am sure some of you have already seen it over these years  :good:

Well, one important thing which will help on my FJ resurrection is that my brother has just bought a new bike, his first ever 1000cc, and he is eager to ride it, so he will push me to get this job done ASAP

Best regards from Spain,

JOSE

Welcome Jose. :hi:

Along with all the customary stuff needed to get a bike roadworthy (new oil, filters, brake fluid, clean out tank, etc)....do not forget to put new tires on it!

I bet those old tires are as hard as a rock.  :bomb:

Cheers

Thanks for the welcome!

You won't believe the tires it has now... Front is a 2007 but rear... is a 1999 Macadam 90  :bomb: :bomb: :bomb:

There is a reason for that, even if not too convincing... I replaced both tires back in 2002. I was taken, as they put '99 tires.

Time warp to 2007. After very low use of my FJ over these years, I decided it was time for tire change... So I went to a local mechanic, who had also an FJ, and asked for 'fresh tires'. 'Sure', he said... When I took back the bike, I found that front was a '07 but back was... a '95 !!!. Yes, he had put a 12 years old tire!!!. It was friday afternoon and I had a 350km trip for that weekend. I did it... but the front tire wobbled like mad!

Of course, I took the bike back to the mechanic on Monday and he told me... that he had forgotten to balance the front tire  :shok: and that the rear tire was 'old but perfectly fine'  :dash2:

Luckily, he still had my '99 Macadam and he put it back... And it has been there until present time.

Back in September 2013 I talked with a tire specialist and I booked with him for tire change, but then the bike didn't work...

So, once I get the carbs on it and have it working, first thing I will do is to replace them.

Sorry for the long post but I wanted to share it with you  :pardon:

Regards,

JOSE
