Joe, I use the same thing. You need to put restrictors in the line to tame down the pulsing.  I bought a cheap brake bleed kit from Harbor Freight and used the restrictors in the kit.  NAPA has the same type of kit.  Most likely any discount auto parts retailer has them.

Works great, a bit large in size but very accurate.  Used 2 cycle oil for fluid.  Adjust as per the service manual.

O.K. Good George. I'll check NAPA first off. Those orifices mist be small huh! I got a drill bit that's like .032?

Those marks you made are where the oil moves to in the vacuum or does it squeeze the tube and stretch the oil up there?

Ha , ha.. No,  they were just reference marks from past use.  One time I pulled one of the tubes off while still running and guess what .... That's why the 2 cycle oil.  No harm done.  I refilled it with a smaller amount of fluid.  Not critical.  No marks needed...  You are just balancing the oil level.

You are correct or close on the orifice size.  Its not all that critical.  Just find something small that will stay in the hose.  Even a smaller size would work. Perhaps two small carb jets.  The brake bleed part was just convenient and as it happened stabilized the pulsing just right.  After you suck some oil in the hose let it sit over night and the tubes will clear up.

Joe, none of us have made furnaces but many of us have made synch tools.

Given how cheap the materials are you are making hard work of it if you only make 2 tubes instead of 4.

The hose closest to the carbys gets very hot and can collapse on itself, I put the sleeves you can see over them to prevent this (because it happened)

The in-line restrictors I used were pieces of a plastic tent pole with a small hole drilled in the middle. You do need these, they smooth it out and prevent fluid being sucked into the motor.
I'm glad I didn't make it any shorter. It shoots up surprisingly fast when the synch is out.

I used auto fluid, because I had some and because the viscosity was about right and the colour good.

The T pieces at the bottom are plastic vacuum fittings from an auto store.

I fixed it to a fence paling and it is about 6' high.

I got lucky with all the variables and it worked perfectly first up, if a tad sensitive.

Thanks George and thanks Noel and thanks for a rare look inside the bat cave.
I think I spotted one... their!

On any of these homemade sync tools (or store bought ones for that matter)
a good source for variable restrictors is an aquarium shop.
Get a air adjustor bar with 4 needle valves, and Bob's your unkle :-)

I just happen to have two of those things in a box of spare aquarium parts. Finest kind! Way to go, Arnie.

Joe I happen to have a Motion Pro sync tool too somewere in the garage, unused and unpacked..
Since i get my carbs synced for free at my mechanics shop, i don't really need them either actually.
I can't let it go for free, if you were to be interested in it, but it would go cheap though  :good2:

Ken, I'll send you a PT in July and we'll talk about the tool. This one will work for now. Thanks
