What are the correct bearing #'s for front and rear of a stock 1986 Fj1200? I would like to buy and have them here before taking the bike apart to reduce down time, end of the year is soon.
Thanks!

Euro,

The info you want is in the "Files/Maintainence" section under "FJ wheel bearings"

Cheers,

Thanks Arnie, I just found the "Files/Maintainence" section, boy I feel dumb!  :dash2:
Thanks!

We've all been there.  I chose to point out the files section so you'd know its there.

BTW  When installing the wheel bearings, put the (wrapped) bearings in the freezer, and heat the bearing receiver socket with a heat gun or even a hair dryer.  Then get the frozen bearing, unwrap it, and install immediately.  They should almost drop right in :-)

Cheers,

Thats a clever one - bearings in the freezer. I'll be using that tip sometime soon as my wheel mod picks up pace.

Also, gently pry off one of the rubber seals and ADD SOME MORE GREASE!  The last few bearings I installed, there was barely enough grease to keep them from rusting.  The rubber seals pop off and on easily.

Would that be standard lithium based grease?

I use automotive wheel bearing grease.

My tub, which looks just like this:

Has been serving me well for several years.

WHAT?????!!!!!!

You don't use the Full Synthetic, Extra Uranium Enriched, Super-Expensive, Motorcycle-Specific Wheel Bearing Grease?????  Only sold through Dearlers!

Don't you know that Automotive stuff makes your bearings slip.  :-)

If it helps I made an "unobtanium" dispersal device for the grease tub, I drilled a 3/8" hole (10mm will do for the furriners) in the center of a plastic disc that just fits into the tub. Now I just press down on the disc and squeeze out a little turd of red grease. Its much better than reaching into the can and scooping it out like a commoner.

Of course on the race bikes we use a very light PTFE based oil on the ceramic wheel bearings running without seals of any kind. The oil is actually used as a corrosion preventative more than an actual lubricant or coolant as these are not necessary for our application.

Happy now.

Which works better on mustaches, Grease or wax?

I prefer mousse' (note the accent mark for the furriners).

Actually I was down to about 10 hairs left in the moustache at the end of the radiation treatments.  It was pretty pathetic, the wife kept telling me to just shave the rest of it off, but I was stubborn and refused.  It's taken 3 mouths, but it's finally has recovered nicely.  Unfortunately, most of it appears to be grey now.  :-(  We'll see if the color comes back or if that's permanent.
