Need help identifying GIVI model

Hi guys.

Have taken of my GIVI wing rack when doing the FZR rear wheel and painting the fairing.
And i can't seem to make up my mind whether to keep this rack or sell it... I have not used it that much since i bought the bike, and i know i won't be missing it if i sell it.
Anyway, i don't know exactly which GIVI model this is, since it it followed the bike from the PO. But to my knowledge it was bought new when the bike was bought in 86 (or not long after) so I think this might be one of the old wingracks for the FJ?
A quick goggle search suggested it might be the GIVI Wing Rack II FJ1200 mounting kit, but didn't that particularly model have "Wingrack II" casted on the side?











If you would be interested in buy this, or the cases, or all of it for that matter, just PM and shoot me a price. I have no idea what this might be worth.
I am located in Norway so shipping might be expensive though, but i you don't need it straight away, there are ways to reduce cost of shipping significally though...

Ken, that rack looks identical to the one I swapped a with Stu for a soft bag for my homemade rack......it was fitted to a '93 FJ.
I can't tell you any more than that, but the mounting hardware looks the same for sure.

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.
Timing has much to do with the success of a rain dance.

The rack looks the same but the top plate is different. Mine is more square . I am not sure what the difference is between mk1 and mk2 but there is no identification on mine either

The E140 (at least to my eye) are a lot better looking with the bags off, but I'm going to guess that the 'N' type are a bit stronger.

I broke one of the E140 side plates (only top-case was on at the time) on an off-road expedition I went on a couple of years ago:

IMO, they need a bit more mount support than is stock from Givi, as the repaired plate failed in light use.

I bought a second-hand 'wing rack two' for $120 here in California.
The fitting kit (specific to an fj) was another $50 or so from a forum member.
Givi bags are expensive pieces of plastic  - figure $100 per box.
I use mine every day ( the top box) and find it an indispensable bit of kit when traveling.
I'd say keep hold of it - once you get into using it for a weekend away - that's the gateway to full on touring.

Thanks Andy. I might just do that.
If i decide to keep them, they do how ever need a new layer of powder coat, or something similar.

Po has tried painting them with a spraycan by the looks of it, and i don't want that on my bike with shinny new paint :good2:

The original finish is pretty fragile.  IMO, bead blast / powdercoat would be the way to go.

FWIW, I wouldn't load much in that top case without another brace on it if you have rough roads at all.

Mine only had a rainsuit in it when i broke it.

Yes i know. That top case is poorly fitted. :scratch_one-s_head:
I will find a better solution for mouting it, i know the topcase is of newer age and not the standard fit to the E140..

Any of the Givi monokey top cases should fit just fine.

However, that doesn't appear to be a genuine Givi top plate on that rack.

A lot of the knock-off bags will fit the Givi rack with very minor mods.

The plate is genuin monolock GIVI, it came with the TopCase. Theres a thin plate i removed for access to screws. This plate makes the surface flush.  :good:
But it is of newer age. I think PO bought it a few years befor he sold it to me. To be honest i havent used the topcase that much, dont know but i prefer the side cases and tankbag.

Yeah, serves me right for looking at the pic on my phone, sorry.     :crazy:

Now that I'm looking at it on the desktop, it does look like a monolock top plate (I meant to say monokey in my previous post, BTW.

That rack is intended to have a monokey plate, like this one:



You can see that it's a bit wider, and lines up with the upright brackets.

Since you have the other plate, you'll obviously have to do some engineering.

Yep, sort top plate as per previous photo (mines same model) and i'm sure it'll stiffen up the whole assembly. I've loaded mine up with full camping equipment and ridden across america without luggage issue. Givi make good stuff, that's why I guess it's so expensive in the first place.
As far as smartening them up, I used a car trim product that restored the gloss black appearance over the sun-bleached grey they had turned. It even disguised the road rash on both the side boxes. There you go, just shows how strong those boxes are. I've dropped the bike on both sides during its history (at car lot speeds) and they've saved me and the rest of the bike from any damage.
Worth it.
