Sadly....over the Christmas Holidays....I lost a rather unique friend.......his name was Mr Squeeks !!

Several weeks ago...I caught the site of a wild mouse scurrying across the floor in the basement....well I was eating at the time and decided to throw him a pc of carrot...within 2 days I had the little guy eating out of my hand......so I made him a little box with some tissue in it and put a bowl of water at the front door and gave him vegies everyday. As soon as I would come down to the basement, he would come up to me and crawl on me and squeek at me. Once the power failure hit us....Mr Squeeks disappeared.....I figured it was the storm and I just waited for him to come back......well ....the Monday came along and I decided to open his box in hopes that I would not find him in it.....but to my very sad dismay......there the little guy was.....curled up in a little ball as though he was asleep.....I couldn't help the tears that fell...but alas...there they were........It's been a tough Christmas....I miss you Mr Squeeks !!!

My furry friend was "Stumpy" - a tail-less fox that visited my garden and refused to leave until I fed him. He's gone now but this spring, what may be his relatives, returned in numbers.

So what happened? did he come back? Did he take the food out of your hand?

We have coyotes on the property....tons...we hear them yelping at night...in packs......one day I came home and spotted a half dozen pups just sitting near mom...in the middle of the field....well I couldn't resist...I grabbed my camera and decided to sneak up and around on them....they headed into the hedge rows and I came at them from above....sun at my back...and up wind...well sure enough I spotted 4 of them playing with one of several golf balls I cracked into the field......and I sat there and watched...well their playing eventually had them running right up to me......3 of them finally caught sight but the forth kept running at me looking behind at his brothers....but they weren't moving..so he stopped and turned around...I had already snapped off about 5 pictures when I got the 6th one from about 2 feet.....I wanted to reach down and grab him....such a cute little pup...but I decided to chase them all the way back to mom... I was laughing and howling like a big wolf...funniest thing.....sadly....I lost a lot of photos....when my computer crashed....more than once

Awwww Kev, thats sad.  :cray:

I'm actually outside refilling the water dishes I have in the garden for the lorikeets and other birds that visit us, big heatwave going on here at the moment. 45 degrees Celsius, poor birds are sitting there with their beaks open. I really do dislike summer here, give me a nice mild winter any day.

Here is some of the wild activity around my home. First, watch this skunk go through our chain link fence. There is no hole in the fence other than the normal openings in the fence. Amazing:

Then, 3 raccoons came for a midnight swim in our pool.

I love living in the country.

Well, come March it should be nice and cool down south where we are going. Pete should be able to give us a heads up on local conditions closer to the time. But over the next few days here it will be dropping back to a much better 28 degrees C, with storms/rain hopefully, bring it on!!!

....I am beginning to think that your climate and our climate are pretty close.....just mirrored.......mind you...you probably don't get much snow and we have no palm trees...
